Stop whinning poosie

wtf do you do in the cold wet mountains when there is no fire?

forestry shit, running chainsaws mostly.
used to think runnin saw was fun, then i cut my chaps and had a saw kick back and almost hit my hardhat.
been scared ever since

How long do you have to stay out for?

I thought you were the boss dog now...wtf you doing grunt work?

There's lots of other shitty jobs out there messicans can do i'm sure you could find one less dangerous and depressing.

nah i like my job for the most part, just being a bitch...been laid off for a minute so it's hard to get back in the swing of things

i'm a squad leader, equal to a sargeant more or less.
sarg still has to get his hands dirty...the crew boss, or captain, is still out in the field and expected to be a tough guy.
thinking about re-certing to be a teacher next winter, if i could land a gym teacher gig i'd be so stoked.
happy to at least have a good job lotsa fux don't have that right now

get transferred to San Diego, dog. We get fires here year 'round. Been sunny and 70-80 lately, erry day. You could try to step into one of the cushy beach gigs, like PB eventually. Nothing but chillin at the beach watching hot bitches in bikinis all day. They love them some firemen too.

tempting and easy to do...but my wages in SD proly wouldn't allow me to live too good right?
and gonna be a hot and dry ca summer...predictions indicate lotta fire activity and water restrictions!

Yep, it's nice as hell. I sat on the porch until midnight sipping on Lagavulin 16 year scotch and smoking a montecristo last night in my shorts and it wasn't the slightest bit cold - just a slight ocean breeze.

I think the FF bros here do alright. I'm sure you could find out probably easier than I could. condos are cheap as hell right now. Houses have come down...some areas more than others. Food and stuff is pretty cheap IMO. Gas is high as hell (close to $4/gal). Plenty of people live here on a lot less than what you'd make.

Just move a little inland or to Northern SD. Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Poway, etc... They are affordable.

dude stop playin bushwacker bob and apply to a city fire dept, dont know what shifts are like there but up in these parts its 7 24hour shifts a month, unless your a work a holic and take alot of ot

PTSD!!!!!

the obvious choice here is disability so as to not decrease your EF post daily average!

also, can't you be like a regular firefighter now? instead of a woodland one? given your experience?

make 80k ish a year...have a shitload of time off, good benefits and the ability to have a secondary source of income with the time you have

muni fire jobs are hard to come by, the majority are volunteer and everyother tool out there wants to be a firefighter so one or two openings are bombarded with apps.
i have all the certs and experience required, but i'm getting old, and they like the younger bros.
so i'm proly gonna stay in my current position, only 17 more yrs and i can retire fairly fatty...and for the record, i'm bitching not so much about my job, but having to go to any job...always hard after time off

I'll be your sugar mama

Poway and N. SD? Are you kidding? Esco has some slummy parts, and Vista/SM for sure.

Better do a little Zillow research bro.

volunteer? Not around here. Man, I used to know some bros...but that was long ago. A bro of mine might know some guys in SF.

And there's tons of hot women here.

I said they were affordable, not the nicest spots SD has to offer. Most people can't afford $750,000.00 - $1,000,000.00 for an average sized home in Carlsbad, Del Mar or La Jolla.

Goo thing I didn't point him towards National City, Chula Vista or San Ysidro.

For the most part, if affordable is around $500k. You do know Poway has quite a few multi-million dollar homes, right?

There's also O-side. Some real affordable slums around the base, huh? lol. ;)

O'side (and the rest of North County) is real hit & miss. Around the base isn't so bad anymore. The city has cleaned it up a lot, but the beach attracts a lot of ghetto trash and the sprinter makes it easier for them to get here.

maybe not in s.cal, but the majority of muni firefighters are volunteer across the country.
percentage of paid is like 12% i think...socal has so many fire resources straining the budget...city, state, county and feds.
i'd be worried if i was paid by the state of CA, the gravey train will only last so long.
calfire would be the outfit for me to get on with though, that's where my experience would matter most since they are all response.
not easy though, every swinging dick meathead wants those jobs
