im just a kid and i signed up for a bench press competition.. what to do?!?!?!

okay.. so a few days ago, i was in the gym thingy at my college, and i was talking to my friend who works there, and he was like "lol, sign up for the bench press competition" i was like "lol, ima get stomped, but whatever" so i signed up for it

im 19, im 5'8, and weigh 156, and my division thing is like in the 140-160 division thing

okay, so like, ive never done something liek this.. its kinda a joke, but my friend said that like prize is 50 bucks...

and then i thought.. wait, probably all the dudes who are signing up for this competition are like hella big dudes who like protien and are gonna be in mostly the 180+ wieght class or something...

so i figure i might have a chance to win

we get 3 tries

okay, so i went to the gym... warme dup with a few pushups... ( i dont know if they will let us warm up with a low amount of wieght, so i didnt try to warm up with it) so i figured i would try with 10lbs below my max, then do my max 2nd try, and try another 5 lbs my 3rd try....

so i went and benched 175.... then waited about a min... benched 185... got it up... then went for 190 and got stuck....

all i really ever did was just some stretching and stuff.. is there anything i can do to like boost my max up maybe 10 lbs? comp is in an hour?

like ask aroudn my dorm for cytomax or one of those work out things, or even jsut drink a red bull or something? comp is in an hour... well the weigh in is in an hour, so ill probably going at it in an hour and half or so...


any advice?
 
The competation ins in an hour and you want to add 10lbs to your bench press after you've already tired yourself out doing your max today?
 
my friend was like drink cyto max or something 2 hours before and it will add a shitload...

and like... i dunno a techinique or something... he was saying all this stuff.. like you can bench a lot more than you think you can, but your mind says you cant, blah blah blah


you know how you can bench mroe on a good day then on a bad day? how do i turn this into a good day or something liek that... like get full use of my muscle or something....

im sorry if i sound like an idiot which i probably do :(

*oh, i did my max on monday... i didnt work out yesterday or today*
 
Unless you have an identical twin who is capable of benching at 200+ weight class, then I would say just kiss that 50 bucks good-bye.

Unless you know what you are doing, and I don't mean just on the day of the lift but rather in regards to training with correct form over many years and also having a good understanding of nutrition, you are just going to get yourself into trouble, either by way of an injury or just by looking stupid.
 
oh well :( .... im not looking for a way to get my permanet max up by 50 lbs or something... i was just asking for advice like "run half a mile to ge tyour blood flowing good" or dont run half a mile, cuase then your legs will feel weak and make your whole body feel weak" or something liek that.
 
Try ammonia caps then.
If they don't kick in for you though then you will look stupid and may even injure yourself in the process.

If you are serious about competing, even if it is just a lifting competition, then plan for it, train for it, and don't just do it on a bet. The only exception is if the bet involves a hot girl. :D
 
I have an amp energy drink i found a month ago thats been sitting in my desk for a whiile... would that be bad to drink? i mean sugar and stuff? quick boost of energy or something.... i mean this isnt a work out or nothing, just some little comp thing

i tired to find cytomax or whatever, but i couldnt find anyone with any, eveyone is in class or out somewhere... cant really get ahold of anything now...

and i mean i guess you can say i have kinda trianed for htis... like i go to the gym like 2x a week or so, and am active person who rides a little bmx bike a good 10 hours a week.
