I know it's only one data point, but I've had a 2007 VW GTI for 2 1/2 years with not a single problem. All the electric gadgets such as sunroof, dual-zone AC, heated seats, CD/Sat/Radio, electric mirrors, still work perfectly.

And yeah it's got an interior like a $40,000 car if you get the leather.
