LOVE the upscale interiors that resemble audis, love the way they drive, like the body style of the current model...

BUT

i keep seeing and hearing about recent ones suffering from electrical problems and other quality control stupidities.

toyota, honda, even hyundai can make darn near bullet proof cars in this size and price catagory...why can't v-dub?

heck, even my 3 year old PT crusier has been maytag reliable.

i suffered thru TOO many british and italian cars that i loved to look at and drive but wouldn't stay together to have that happen all over again with a v-dub. :worried:

COME ON, volkswagen AG....get your quality control shit together!!!!!!

actually it's popular amongst my friend's teenaged daughters

you know that's a gay car right?? jk..

I have the honda accord, can't/wont stray from that again, unless i get 2yr old 328 convertible.. but you are right, i think the issue with VW is they try to make too many different people happy..

I like them too by the way..

I know it's only one data point, but I've had a 2007 VW GTI for 2 1/2 years with not a single problem. All the electric gadgets such as sunroof, dual-zone AC, heated seats, CD/Sat/Radio, electric mirrors, still work perfectly.

And yeah it's got an interior like a $40,000 car if you get the leather.

most audi and VW don't have electrical or hardware problems till 40K+

You either love them or hate them
If you're on the fence, don't bother and buy something gay again.

+111111

they've also improved those things in the newer models.

as long as you have warranty you should be ok. If you buy/lease a VW/Audi make sure it's new and you have warranty. don't have to worry about anything. if you end up keeping it past 50k miles (the length of the warranty), get extended warranty. it's worth it.

Tranny computer went out on my last audi at 53k miles and it cost me 3 grand. could got the extended warranty for much less than that for 3 years

i was smart this time. got it brand new again but kept it to a short lease so before it has problems i can get out of the vehicle and get a new one.

it's a company car anyways :)

By most reports, 2006 and later are much improved in the reliability department. JD Power ratings for VW and Audi have risen dramatically too.

My neighbor just bought a 2004 V12 Phaeton off eBay a few months ago, that thing has more gadgets than anything else on the road, more even than an S-Class, and so far they all still work. The little radiator that keeps the windows from fogging is amazing.

yes, i have heard the last couple years were much better for quality control.

IF i did get a new jetta i think i would have to lease it. that way i could just walk away after the lease is up if it turns out to be a POS.

There's a new model coming for 2010, so there will probably be some deals on leftover 2009s. And everyone in the car biz has leftovers in this economy.

The new model is mostly just a facelift of the present car, with some minor mechanical upgrades and an even nicer interior.

I'd say more Jello Mold than Cookie Cutter... :)

BTW, the interior of the CC is REAL nice.

can u get a jetta/gti with comparable interior? I like those better on the outside.

No. The Jetta or GTI with leather is nice, but the CC is at another level. Which makes sense since it's the luxury version of the Passat.

Closest you can come to a Jetta or GTI with the CC interior would be an Audi A3 with leather. And the A3 will murder you with depreciation. I was looking at 2007 GTI and A3 prices the other day. When they were new the A3 was about $4K more than a similarly-equipped GTI. Two years later clean low-miles 2007 GTIs are still retailing at over $20K and the A3s are only fetching $14-$16K.

I bought my 97 VR6 new for 19,500

I have owned about 5 V dubs (3 GTI, and 2 scirroccos,
I have owned 1 Audi (85 GT coupe) try finding one of those

The Phaetons are siiiiiiiiiiick
those cars plummeted in value
I'd never by a w12, due to the gas and price, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a nice clean v8 next for my lady

I think the CC is like a min benz, kinda classy looking and innovative from the reg VW sedan look.

I say get a chevy HHR and stick to your roots bro

...I say get a chevy HHR and stick to your roots bro
i had an HHR for a 3 day vacation rental last year...HATED it. windows like mail slots, the dashboard gauges looke like they were after thought stick ons, slow, limp, numb steering. the best thing about it was the air conditioning...typical general motors.

also, i think that the chevy truck of the early 50's it's styling was copied from was but-ugly....as is the HHR.

"H" stands for "horrible", IMO.

ololololol! @ all the "trendy" peeps trying to justify a VW on the basis of quality & reliability

nice try

No one can touch Honda or Toyota for reliability and overall build quality.

Toyota's got nothing, though, for people who like cars and like to drive. Not a single enthusiast car. Honda is in a somewhat better position for enthusiasts, but not by much, they've got the Civic SI and, surprisingly, the Fit is a decent drive; the S2000 is discontinued after 2009, and they haven't made the Prelude since 2001.

The point of the VW thread, as I see it, is that they make good cars for drivers, with some of the nicest interiors in the business too. Until fairly recently VW reliability was bad enough to remove their cars from consideration, but I'm suggesting that since 2006 they've become a pretty safe bet. They're good enough to consider, now, if you like their features.

I've owned literally hundreds of vehicles in my life. Since 2001 I've purchased 5 new vehicles.

I don't believe there is any new car product out there (excluding possibly an Aveo) that would be troublesome for the limited mileage I incur along with the meticulous maintenance schedule I adhere to.

Also, more than likely I'll be out of the vehicle before the bumper to bumper warranty expires.

He got the W12 Phaeton for $25K. It seems perfect. Except for the wrong badge on the grille. He doesn't care about the laughably poor fuel economy since it's not his daily driver.

What's the word that's even more severe than "plummet"? Phaeton resale values fell through the trap door into a pit of crocodiles. I wonder if a similar fate awaits the CC?
