Alcoholism runs in my family and I had my bout with it when I was younger in the military. If I have my wife to thank for one thing it is not tolerating my drinking.

I actually went through withdrawal and now I am on medication that prevents and curves the cravings and its working well...I know all I post about is work however I cant wait to get back to my buisnesstxbondsman said:there's usuallly a point that one says, "Enough already", and makes a change. Some it can take very little, others, years of misery. As I've posted before, look at stopping drinking in smaller timeframes. It's damn near impossible to stop drinking forever, but almost anybody can stop drinking for the next hour, or day. Then you keep stringing those together.
I'm here if you need me. With any luck I'll have one more day myself tomorrow. On Oct 3rd, God willing, I'll have put 8 years of those 5 minute, or hour timeframes together.
Congratulations.Arabian said:I have been sober the longest time since my divorce with the help of counseling, meetings and determination... Just saying..... Scotch is a drug

being a Daddy will certainly put everything in perspective, huhh nev...![]()
jnevin said:Yeah it does. I don't want to have missed out on anything because I was drunk. Whether it's calming her down from crying, changing a poopy diaper, anything. It's still hard for me. The habitual part of it makes me so annoyed and angry sometimes. That passes and I feel a bit better. It just feels like as soon as I get done with work, I'm on edge for the rest of the day. Even if I work out until I'm sick, I get this anxious energy and feel like I could punch someone's face so hard my hand would break through the back of their head.
So true.txbondsman said:^5! way to go, Ricco! < rhymes
I think that you would agree with this, we keep talking in days, months, and sometimes years. It's really just one, after one, after one, then another day, infinity. It can and often is a shorter period, 5 minutes, HELL sometimes one! But my point is it's just as the saying goes, "one day at a time"...
Therefore, who is the person with the longest sobriety?
The person who woke up first today.
ricco561 said:So true.
After awhile those minutes add up and one day you wake up and it's a year. And then so on, and so on.......
Early sobriety can be tough and a test, but it will work.
Arabian: if you have any questions (or anybody), please PM me. I'm more then happy to help.

Jnev, be patient with your SO, and the people around you. You'll have to learn what she is like when your sober and vice versa, especially for extended periods of time. We have to re-learn who the other one is, almost like yall just met. We're not the same people. There will be differences, some big- most small, but all the personalities change to some degree.
There's alot of changes in your world right now, just try and roll with the flow...... deep breaths, hold your tongue, and smile when you may not feel like smilin'. Just till things settle down......
Again.............all great advice.txbondsman said:In addition to my other posts.

txbondsman said:Life is odd, this is a subject that I have a PHD in. You see me writing, giving advise, telling stories, etc, I hope that some of it sinks in and may help somebody to not drink or drug for today. But in reality, the advice is me telling it to myself so I don't forget, the stories are for the same reason, to keep the feeling real. As the big book says, "we don't want to dwell on the past, but we don't want to forget it either", so it helps me as much or more than it helps anybody. Also, it's step 12, "to help other alcoholics ( I say addicts) who still suffer"....
Any wisdom that I have has been bought and paid for many times over with heartbreak and tears, mostly my families. I could only hope that it doesn't happen to any of you or your families. So, I'll keep witing and telling my stories in hopes that it doesn't...

Attraction rather then promotion, eh?txbondsman said:yep, and I didn't know it at the time, but it was why in the big plan, God's not mine, I was to be a bondsman I truely believe. Who do I have to deal with 99% of the time, addicts. And, when your comming out of jail, most have an open mind as to alternatives. They get to come out and who do they see? ME! LOL
They get the full treatment if they are willing to listen.... lol
If you need to hide or cover up your drinking.......................jnevin said:The hardest part for me is the fact that I'm extremely functional. The only times I ever missed or was late to work was when I'd do drugs. I can't remember the last time I did the white devil. Booze just calms me. I know I have a problem with it since it was a daily thing for me to drink close to a fifth and never seemed drunk to my wife-ish. I'd cover it up by having a beer when I got home and she'd think that's why my breath would stink.

You definitely do. One day, one step at a time.jnevin said:Probably not as much as I should.
Definitely not as I should.
I went 8 months before, stopped going to meetings, and was right back where I started within weeks.
I think txbondsman really hit it when he said you have to re-learn who you are and who everyone around you is when your head clears.
