Definately the "no pay" applies here. I think Project is right (I hate saying that) you use the vacation days first and when they`re used up, you go to the other stuff.

depends on what kind of test and where she is going. If it's the heart institute then i could understand it. Before my mother passed away i had to take a lot of time off unpaid because she got very sick very quickly after a routine test. Let him have the time off man.

I have no problem with him taking time off. But I think he wants to be paid for it without using his vacation pay.

it's not legal i don't believe.... unless he is the one that is sick. i didn't get paid except when my mother actually passed away.
