Usually about 7 hours. I could stand to get a little more, but under 6 and I am a DISASTER! :)

Now that we got our king sized bed both me and my BF sleep MUCH better. We used to have a double bed......He is 6'1" and 220lbs. Not a lot of room for me, him and the cat! The king bed was a Godsend!

About 7-8 hours a night, plus usually a 30 min morning nap after my workout (and my shower of course). Always a nap or two on the weekends too - not because I'm sleepy necessarily, but because they feel great.

usually 5 - 6 hours. I set my alarm for 5:30 am then proceed to hit my snooze button till at least 6:15... so why don't I just set it for 6:15??

It must be that perverse sense of satisfaction I get from thinking I'm sleeping in.

Probably 6-7 but that's not enough. I'm a cranky girl when I'm not getting enough rest. But when my only training time is 5am a lot of mornings, it's extra hard to drag myself out of bed running on 5-6 hours of sleep.

6 - 7 hours. I like to set my alarm at 6 and after waking up I set it again at 7 or so. I'm like Tri Girl. Or, since I live in the cold north, I may have to warm up the engine of my car, so I must wake up to plug in the warmer. Brrr! Fancy going out half asleep, your coat half open, shoes quite carelessly on, tramping through the frost: -10 - -30 grades Celsius. It's heaven to cover myself again under the warm blanket.

Sometimes I sleep less than 5 hours. If it's just one night, it is nothing to me. At weekends I take the lost hours back and sleep until 10 o'clock.

About 6-7 hours, more on the weekends. On vacation next week so I can't wait to sleep in!!

I wish I got eight hours. It's usually between 6 and almost 8. I have to get up at seven to see my son off to school, and I'm usually up until 10 or 11 ironing hubby's clothes for the next day (while he plays around at EF, post workout...he's at the gym now and I ought to be ironing!), then the nookie keeps us up a little later...

I'm lucky to get even 5 straight hours of sleep. I can literally hear a pin drop in another room, the slightest change in temperature, dog barking down the street, anything and it's all over wide awake. I envy you guys who are able to get 8 hours of sleep. I can't remember what that was like but I'm sure it a really good feeling :-)

Usually, nine. I feel OK with 7, for a couple days, but I'm smarter (& nicer) with 9.

I feel like such a slug next to you 6 hour chicas ...

Sunday night to Thursday night I get 5-7, seven being a stretch. Friday night I'm in the 9-11 range and Saturday night about 8.

If it werent for the weekend I'd be a zombie throughout my work week.

I usually get 8-9, but I feel the same way about napping.

8 to 9. I wish I could be productive on less. Last night I got 11 hours (could have slept longer too)....I stayed out late on Thursday night and I guess I was still making up for it!

Sounds like some of you need to get to bed a bit earlier! I usually get about 8-9 hours every night. BUt then again i go to bed at around 9:30 hehe.

(taking naps or sleeping in on the weekends doesnt make up for sleep deprivation during the week ladies LOL)

I'd say the norm for me is 6 hrs. but I go through boughts of insomnia where I'll average 3 hrs. a night for weeks or months at a time. Lately though, since I had surgery almost 2 weeks ago, I've been sleeping crazy amounts, like 10 hrs. a day...sometimes more. The other day I fell asleep at 5pm, woke up for an hour from 9-10pm, and then slept till 11 the next day.

I'm actually useless if I get more than 7. Feel like I have cement in my head and tar in my veins. 4 hours is about minimum, but I can still function - but the workout definitely suffers. I almost miss the college days when 4-5 hours every 2 days was enough and sleep dep was fun.

I get just a little over 8 hours.

However, a lot depends on my diet. If I go very low carb, my sleep becomes very restless after a few days and I have trouble falling asleep.

One night six, one night 4, one night 7....oh, with three little ones it just depends who's teething, who's having bad dreams and who's "too old to be going to bed so early"!! Oh, and same thing with me and low carbs - low carbs=bad sleep=grumpy Tara.

Aaahhh...vacation in California is coming up...a full nights sleep is mine!

Need 7 or 8...now that kids started back to school this week (I teach) I have only been getting 5 or 6 because I have to get up at 5:15am and I'm not used to going to bed early yet! I try to but don't fall asleep so I end up reading or watching TV. Doesn't help that I need to go to bed at 10 and the only two tv shows I really watch are on from 10-11! So I crash for an hour or two when I get home and am adjusting to my now hectic life (since I also take graduate classes 2 nights/week) and have also not been to the gym in two days :( But I've still lost half a pound this week so not all is lost.

I try to get 8 hours... but my boyfriend comes home at 12:30 each night(he works Swing shift), I wake up at 0600 to go to work. I tend to wake up when he comes in.... cause I want to see him...

Unless I'm PMSing, I usually have to force myself to get 4-5 hours. I typically wake up after two and feel completely rested.

I love to sleep.

I am fortunate now that I can sleep in a little in the morning. I ususally get around 8 + hours of sleep a night. I go to sleep early and then I wake up early-mid morning.

Sleep...ahhh.

Sleep is good! I get up from 8 hours each night. I try to listen to my body and sleep as much as I NEED to. Good that my schedule allows for it! Sleep is now linked weight. Too little sleep: Weight gain. Has to do with ghrelin and leptin (hormone) levels fluctuating due to lack of sleep. Directly linked in a new study.... GO SLEEP!! It's good for you!!

For more:

Read this study:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2004-12-06-sleep-weight-gain_x.htm

In short it states that lack of sleep is now directly linked to weight gain. What happens is that hormones ghrelin and leptin fluctuate to make higher appetite and more feeling of starvation (hence appetite) from higher and lower levels respectively.

QUOTES:

People who routinely slept five hours a night had a 14.9% higher level of ghrelin and a 15.5% lower level of leptin than those who slept eight hours.

Researchers found that people who sleep two to four hours a night are 73% more likely to be obese than those who get seven to nine hours. Those who get five or more hours of sleep a night are 50% more likely to be obese than normal sleepers. Those who sleep six hours are 23% more likely to be obese.

I find that when I don't sleep enough I have a much harder time eating clean. I crave carbs and sugar all day when I am sleep deprived. I make sure to get a minimum of 8 hours every night, often a bit more!

This is one of the things I am tracking in my training journal.

I did come across some recent research that suggests that 6-7 hours is optimal, anything more can be harmful to health as well.

Lack of sleep = stress = cortisol = belly fat

I know I don't get enough sleep, and it is one of those things that I am going to get sorted as I am going to have a LONG year of getting ready for comps, which is taxing enough on the immune system without adding this into the mix.

I used to think I was one of those people that could get by on less, but lately I've realized I don't feel "on my game" if I don't get at least 9 hours. I know it's ridiculous to need that much sleep, but I gotta have it or I don't function well.

6-7 hrs....

Bodybuilders should get 8 hrs a night...

P.S. Am I the only "male" here?

That's alright, honey, we don't discriminate.

I wish I COULD sleep 8 hours. I can go to bed as early as I like but doesn't do you a whole lot of good to lie there and stare at the ceiling, does it? I just can't go to bed early.

I usually sleep in once a week, and then I'll get 8 or 9 hours, but I average right around 7 hours.

omg i am so tired lately

Usually I'm good with around 7.5 hours but not so much the past week

i'm exhausted

i need beauty sleep

I have a twin sis and I know exactly what i would look like if i burned the candle at both ends. lol
