I'm screwing around with a possible Poker Room package, and it assumes a 2GHz PC with a kick-butt video card. How bad do you peeps want in?

It was kick ass when I built it, now it's three and a half years old. P4 2.0G was hot shit in January 2002. Video is Matrox Millennium G550, not much of a gamer's card. I do have that gig-o-ram though.

No thanks, I'll stick with my mac.

More than 1.5 GHz (or maybe less) will have minimal impact on web surfing

A 3.5 Ghz bipro with 2 GB of RAM and a 56K modem will do poorly for playing games on the internet

BTW, not interested now

Can't really see how a flash or even a javascript game can require a 2GHz processor.

It'll tell you at BIOS POST normally, but if you right click on my computer and go to properties it'll also tell you.

You had a 933MHz in 1996? Strange...Intel was still trying to break 300Mhz in 1997. It was considered the shiznit to have a 233MMX back then. You seem to get bullshit called on a lot of posts.

Yeah, the URL points to 300MHz PII's in 1997. 1996 tho, is what he was talking about.

I think it was more like October but you could be right. I started my first job on my 40th birthday in the August of 1997 and they gave me a PII 266. How I bleated when I heard that 300s were out.

Does anyone remember when Voodoo 1 cards made 3D start to happen?

I went with thier competition, the Rendition Verite cards, then id software made a special version of quake for the rendition cards. Life was good!

That was God saying porn is bad, and stop filesharing; He and the music industry are upset.

Do you have multiple hard drives in your machine? Maybe the other drive has a loose cable and isn't being picked up.

If you just have the one drive and your files are simply gone then first thought is that someone has hacked you, taken what they wanted and trashed the rest. Take a look in your recycle bin just in case you accidentally dropped them in there yourself.

Another possibility is that you've accidentally moved the whole folder to somewhere unexpected (easily done with Explorer). Do a file search for mp3 or jpg or whatever is appropriate for your missing files.

first off thanks for the help

1. i believe its a single hard drive.... gateway 1450

2. hacked? hope not ..not in the recycle bin... i had some word docs and pics in there but they are gone now :( rec bin got cleaned up

3. i dunno man.... :( i wnt to "search" and typed in some songs and pic names but no luck as of now :(

Or he hosed his FAT16 file structure in the process of the hard power cycle. Run scandisk.exe and see if it finds any damaged or interleaved files, and let it repair them.

so i just did a search for "jpeg" and some things came up.... like a frw pics that i had.. not the around 75 i had in my folders though..so i dont think the stuff is gone

I'm actually looking at dell for a new PC for some time in the future.

This is my current set up. Can't believe it's still working on Windows 98.
400mhz P2 100 FSBus
128m ram
10g HD

I added 1 or 2 128`s to the ram at a later date. Not sure how many. Bought it in 1997? roughly (don't start calling me out on that asscollectors). for about $3500 with a 19 inch monitor and a few programs etc...

One question.. What's the difference between a Intel P4 or M processor? Which is better to go with?

I've been looking at P4 or PM 3ghz 2gRamm 19 inch montior 256 video card, 160 HD ... roughly $1500.

Pentium M or p4? and what the hell is Dual core blah blah...

WTF?? It is PLAIN WRONG to have a computer thread and not PM me about it, you mofos!!!

:nerd:

Anyway,

I built our home system:

- AMD (yeah, fugg Intel) Athlon 2800+, 2,25 GHz, 333 FSB
- 1 Gb RAM
- 2x80 GB 7200 S-ATA HD for Operating System, in Mirror Configuration (Raid 0)
- 2 x 200 Gb 7200 s-ATA HD for DATA, non stripping (I hate losing data to that, and don't feel like making a RAID 5 array home and losing 1 drive)
- Radeon 9700+ (DirectX9, HW compliant, 128Mb)
- Gb Ethernet
- 16X Multimode DVD writer (one need space for all the stuff in those 400Gb)
- 6 fans, temperature controlled, inside the case, negative pressure system (considered a water cooled system, but at the time it was too much hassle)
- Creative Audigy Player (5.1 sound)

I then did some modding to the case, here are the results

2.4ghz in both the laptop and the PC.

PC has a decent video card (although probably not a good gaming card) and 512mb ram.

Laptop has about as good of video as you'd expect out of a Dell and 256mb ram. The picture quality is actually pretty good though, and video plays nicely. Sucks that I can't get the resolution over 1024x768, but the 15" display impressed me for such a cheap laptop.

Aww, the glorious life of a palestinian, being so frustrated with life and its possibilities to pick up a stone and throw it at the goliath. They need hope and they need leaders. Could you imagine standing and humiliated by Israeli security guards in 30C summer heat for four hours just to go to work and provide for their family.
In Detroit Humantarget said that a guy killed three people and when the cops asked him why did he kill three people, he said "...b/c its too damn hot!!!" Now thats fucking hot. I know Ive been there, Hell, Michigan that is, grew up there, born in Dearborn the home of the largest muslim community now in the US. What the solution to all of this, no one listens to me

I have a GeForce2 in our 2nd PC. I was using that computer up until this past Feburary when I built the 2.4ghz. The 2nd PC has an AMD950 and 1gb ram.

The 2nd PC hasn't been online in a while. I need a wireless card for the laptop and a wireless router so I can put the 2nd PC back online with an ethernet cable instead of having that cable plugged into the laptop.

The 2nd PC has a 14" moniter that is probably 8 years old. It works so I'm not complaining.

If you've already got a moniter you plan on using, you could build a computer with those specs cheaper. It's really not hard either.

Wait, I'm saying this to GL.....nevermind.

lol Nice try bro. Let's not forget who you're talking to here. That is a good system though, right? The HD was 250, not 160. No big deal. 19 inch flat panel... too.

Personally I don't understand some people's obsessions with computer cases. I've had to buy 2, one for my last PC and then the new one. I got el cheapo cases with 450w power supplies and the ability to add more case fans.

I had to add an extra case fan to the AMD950. That bitch ran HOT, even when it was sitting in the same room as the AC. I have a cabinet in the desk for the PC and I had to leave the door wide open at all times with the AMD box or it'd overheat. I had to get a new heatsink/fan combo for it too, with dual fans. Even then it still ran really hot, but everyone's told me older AMDs had that issue.

The new PC runs a lot cooler. I think there was a case fan in it already (can't remember, not opening it to find out), and over the heatsink there's a "tunnel" that vents to the outside of the case to help keep the processor cool.

I spent less than $40 on each case. The only problem I've had is the power supply in the first one died after a month but it had a 1 year warranty.

Who said anything about Flash or Java? It builds a Cygwin environment on your system and then runs 3D video hosted on the server in a VNC window. Choice of overhead, perspective, or first-person views of the table. What they call an immersive environment in geekspeak.

Runs like ass on my low-end test box, but they must figure someone can run it or they wouldn't have released it, right?

I use RealVNC to talk to one of my other boxes without a monitor, seems real smooth, but that's mostly just desktop redraws.

Hey DT , if you've got some spare cash (about $250) buy a Sb Audigy 4 I have one with Creative inspire P7800 7.1 analog speakers. But The Audigy 4 includes an audiodrive for digital speakers. So I have an optical cable (bumblee taped to the carpet) from my audiodrive to my receiver. Optical Out from the audiodrive to an optical in on a 7.1 pioneer reciever VSX-D850S.

Having said all that, Creative just released the X-Fi sound card and audiodrive...
