Google it.

Long story short, Telogen Effuviam is a sudden forcing of hairs into the Telogen (death) phase. It can be caused by stress, hormonal changes, and large doses of compounds ranging from Vitamin A to chemo drugs. Basically, anything that can cause a dramatic shift in your body's chemistry can cause a Telogen Effluviam (for example, it's quite common for women to experience it right after childbirth when their hormones suddenly revert back to their pre-pregnant levels).

TE is different from MPB. In MPG, an androgen (typically but not always DHT) binds to the follacle which then signals the immune system to attack it. The follacle becomes damaged, the hair that is there can no longer be supported, so it is shed. A new hair grows, but it's finer and weaker than the one before. This process can occur multiple times for the same follacle until the hair becomes "peach fuzz" and ultimately stops growing all together (the process is referred to as miniaturization).

Here's the bad news... TE and MPB are NOT mutually exclusive. As a matter of fact, a wave of MPB is often kicked-off by a sudden TE.

Bottom line, if it's pure TE, you'll get 100% of those hairs back. If it's MPB being accelerated, you won't. In practice, it's probably a little of both.

Go to www.wholesalehairproducts.com and get their email address. Ask about their 2% spirolactone solution (not available on their site, but they have it -- trust me). Put that on your head 2x a day. It's the friendliest and easiest to apply stuff I've found yet. Some spiro creams/lotions are just NASTY!

Right! And finasteride won't treat TE, but it will treat MPB, so if you take the finasteride, it should all grow back to it's original state after TE is over because it won't allow the DHT to close down the follicles.

WOW great info!!!! I assume I don't have the TE since I can just barely notice myself losing hair, (never feel it coming out or see it or anything) I have the spiro 5%, should I switch and buy the 2 % the 5 kinda smells...
The wholesalehairproducts.com stuff goes in so easily for me and isn't as smelly/nasty as the creams I've tried. That lets me consistently use it 2x a day (and 3x a day when my next cycle starts). For me, spiro is more about compliance and regular use as opposed to dreading putting the stuff on your head each morning.

I am running an eq/var cyce which I have two under my belt so far. I did not add the var yet but the eq at week five is making me almost bald. Never shedded before now my hair looks like it will have to be shaved. I am using nizoral, nioxin and proscar.

Whats the chances of it coming back and should I add more zinc into my diet.
By 'nioxon' I believe you mean Minoxidil.
If you are using Rogain, you can switch to oral Minxodil (small dose).
It will decrease blood pressure.
I don't know if all of your hair will come back.
It probably varies with people.

Nioxin is a topical treatment used for thinning/DHT-damaged hair. Think of it more as a vitamin/enrichment product.

Then add Rogain 10%. It is proven to work.
I personally don't believe in any nutritional stuff. There is no proof it works.

I occasionally use Nioxin as a backup but I agree... comparing Nioxin to something like Spiro is like comparing saw palmetto to Propecia.

Also... good news about Rogaine: If you are experiencing Telogen Effluvium, Rogain can actually help hold hairs in the anagen (growth) phase longer. It isn't a wonder-drug for TE, but it helps.

Bad news about Rogaine: If you are experiencing MBP and AAS are accelerating that, then Rogain may mask those symptoms temporarily. Basically Rogain encourages a lesser follacle to produce a better hair. If you are hitting the androgens hard and it's continuing to attack follacles, Rogain will encourage these follacles to produce decent hairs but they remain under attack regardless. What this means is you can go 1-2 years and see "results", but once the boost you got from Rogain is offset by the new damage to the follacles, MPB will resume. Worse yet, guys often think "hey, the Rogaine has stopped working, I'll discontinue it" and BOOM... about 2-3 months later all those follacles that were being propped-up by Rogain dump their hairs.

Anyway... I don't use Rogaine yet, but i'm a religious topical spiro user. Spiro topically blocks any androgen, not just DHT -- so it's really good protection for whatever AAS you find yourself using.

Thanks,
