Getting ready for blood test (HRT program)

Hey all,

I just had an appt. with an HRT doc this week and he's sent me to get a blood test for the following:

Free T3
Free T4
TSH
Zinc
Thyroid

It appears he's focusing only on my thyroid function. Is that normal? From what I've read on these boards, there are a slew of other measurements to take (free test, PSA, estrogen, cholesterol...to name a few).

So I have two questions:

1. Should I press him to check all those other hormones, etc? Will he question why I'm so interested in them and assume I'm getting into bodybuilding?

2. Which blood test metrics determine whether the doc prescribes HGH? If he decides to go only with the thyroid measurements listed above, is that sufficient for him to set me up with somatotropin?

My goal out of the gate with HRT iwa to find a doc that will put me on an HGH + test program, since I've heard they complement one another. Am I correct?

Thanks,
S

1. yes you should. your health should be important to you. screw what the doctor thinks. don't ask, tell him what you want tested. prepare to pay more.

2. thyroid tests will not be sufficient to get HGH. most will prescribe testosterone if you test low in testosterone.

bump for how to get a rx for HGH

I was sent by my dr. for a blood test recently. Free test. is what they looked for. When eh saw the results of the free test. he said he will prescribe HRT

Thyroid is standard on all blood tests.

There are dozens of extra tests you can take. If you want something specific you have to ask. Depending on what plan you have, they will cost extra. T and Free T testing is $$$ out of pocket.

Deca would not be prescribed for HRT.

It's unlikely HGH will be prescribed unless it's a "life extension" clinic or a very liberal endo. Most GP's know nothing about it.

And of course, you'll only get a script if your levels are below normal.

Just remembered he also gave me a saliva test kit too. It looks like that one covers much more...check out this link:

http://www.biomediclabs.com/inc/sdetail/7428

So it appears he's using both the blood test (thyroid stuff) and saliva for a complete picture. I still don't see PSA or cholesterol on there. I suppose I should ask him about that.

All this said, is it possible or likely that he'll prescribe HGH, if the test levels measured by the test at the above link are low enough?

Thanks again,
S
