I liked the Gansta Rap deal. I hate ALL todays hip-hop monkeys though. Arrogant idiots who need to learn what squats are.

Dre - Chronic
Tupac - All Eyez On Me/Makaveli: 7 day Theory
Snoop - Doggystyle.
Fabolous - Ghetto Fabolous (It's a decent ablum if you can get over his down syndrom flow).

My favorite albums from that period:

Fear of a Black planet by Public Enemy.
Momma said knock u out by cool j

No fucking doubt. I'm glad someone said it.

My list was in no order but that is most definately the best rap album ever made IMO. I like hard stuff and the beats were unreal.

If someones only exposure to the Hip-Hop genre is Mtv though brother, you can't blame them for thinking it is all nigger this & that.

I liked Public Enemy, Cube(solo & NWA), Snoop, Nate Dogg, Warren G, Tupac, & Biggie because they were real. I mean, those guys really were the gansta degenerates they claimed to be, right? I mean, their lyrics reflected an anger over a life that was actually theirs. In my opinion, that is the complete opposite these days. Number one, EVERY video and song in hip-hop is the exact same. Some porch-monkey bragging about all the money he has, cars women etc, as well as basicly how great they are, how badass or whatever. NO FUCKING WAY first off, does a guy with one video under his belt, as well as being on their debut CD release as well, have all this money, cars, mansions, or roll of $100.00's which they all toss away in all their videos, as if they are so rich that they wouldn't bother to pick up one of those Bills, if they dropped one walking down the street.

That is my point. Not only are those a-holes completely POSING, but the music sucks too. Again, on Mtv, Hip-Hop is all about image. THE MUSIC ALL SOUNDS THE SAME--like shit! If you have an image that is a lie, and your music sucks ass to boot, then someone for an appreciation for the actual music is going to lose interest real quick.

This is what happened to the 1980's hair-banders in my opinion. Before Heavy Metal broke big, the music was great! When it became more about who could be the prettiest, most androgenous-looking Mtv video band, people lost interest REAL FAST, giving way for Grunge to emerge.

This is where shitty-ass Hip-Hop is heading. Too much image--not enough good music. It will go away real soon, I guarantee it(thank Christ).

Stadium Rock, if bands like The Darkness, or The White Stripes(to a lesser extent) are any indication, might become the next big thing-again.

great fuckin post....karma...

HOWEVER i think hip hop will revert back to its roots eventually.

the commercialness of it might die down (thank god) but the art will always exist.

manny, good call on the gangstar and outkast. ATLiens is dope, so is aquemni...didn't really like stankonia or southernplayerlisticwtf...

oh I forgot, one of my favorite rap albums was the Geto Boys original album, "Geto Boys". They sampled clips from the movie Scarface before it was cool to do so. A TRUE classic.

In this day and age, NO brand of ANYTHING can be mainstream without it being corrupted by marketing. If it's name brand top of the charts, it WILL be tuned into BS before long. If "stadium rock" turns out to be the next big thing, it's only time until they market the hell out of that and new "poser stadium rocke bands" emerge.

as much as i hope your right, i disagree with you. first off i am biased cuz all i listen to is BIG and Pac so right off the bat to me, hip hop will not return to its best form because they were the best, and obviously are not around anymore. also take this for example. When 50 cent first came out i was like, okay we have chance here at having a real rapper again. Some of his shit was pretty good and all, but now like a year later, all his shit stinks and he dresses like hes a rich woman. O well, RIP BIG and Pac.....out

That was the hardest shit ever. Made NWA seem like a kinda gentler rap group that ain't easy. Willie D was my favorite. I never would have guess Scarface would have been the one to blow up and Willie D fall of the face of the earth.
