Does this piss you off at the gym????

G Lapagola

New member
ok, this is just a rant about something that pisses me off more than anything at the gym. i am not a huge guy, but i have some size. well anyways, my arms are a little over 16inches, not that that is some shining achievement, but its over average at my gym. anyways, i NEVER wear sleeveless shirts b/c i feel that my arms are not large enough to grant that look of being tough or big. so where do these little shits who have 13 inch arms get off wearing wife beaters(tank tops for those of you still in the 80s) to work out in. i mean these kids bench like 100 lbs max, and curl about 50 lbs. are they not embarassed with their small arms? if im wearing sleeves, you should too you small shit. does this not piss anyone esle off? i could beat the shit out of all these guys and they walk around like they are the #1 shit. ok, done ranting.

It´s like that in my gym. All the small guys wear tanktops and all the big guys wear layers of sweaters and t-shirts and god forbid if you accidenttaly happend to see even an inch of muscle :(

I think almost every gym has these guys. I'm not to one to flaunt my muscle, since it is about average, but there are always those chumps who wear those spandex shirts or their little sisters T-shirts to work out at the gym, and they are lacking greatly in muscle, proportion, or they're just real cut, naturally. I hate em.

No offense man, but you sound pretty retarded. It would be funny if you got so completely insecure that you did try to beat the shit out of one of them, and then in self defense, they shot you in the fu*kin head. I can't believe thoughts like this actually go through people's head.

well im actually not that tiny..
im bigger than all my friends

I don't lift in a gym, but when I do lift i normally wear a chut off shirt. Its cooler and I like to see my arms working to see if I'm doing them any good. I lift in a friends basement with 3 other guys. ONe of them is big and he had the arms to show off but myself do it to see how well I'm working cretain parts.

What's wrong with wearing a sleevless shirt if you're not huge? Just because someone wears a wife beater or tank top to the gym doesn't necessarily mean that they think they have huge muscular arms, does it? And so what if they don't?

I believe it's easier to train if you can see your muscles and watch them flex.

It's not a matter of being insecure like you seem to be. I respect a little guy wearing a wife beater because he's not ashamed of his puny body. There's nothing wrong with that.

Wear what you're comfortable in, that's all.

-PATRO

I wear whatever the fuck i want to..bite me,

this includes water wings and tassles on back day

This is a funny post. Here we are...
Bottom line unless you can go up to someone and beat the shit out of them because of the shirt they are wearing than you shouldn't really bitch about it because it makes no difference anyways.

i think that is a pretty dumb judgement, someone wearing tank tops doesn not mean he is trying to show muscles, it is a traditional workout outfit, you sweat you work hard, it is just cltohes that you arent gonna be wearing out so you wear it to work out i

Training Attire...

Who cares what other people are wearing??? Wear what makes you comfortable. If you'll put the energy into your training that your wasting by worrying about what others are wearing then you'll be better off. These insecurities are a waste of time.

- Screwball

Damn right. We got lots of little guys wearing beaters, and I got absolutely no problem with it.... the only ones that irritate me are the ones that swagger around with full blown ILS (imaginary lat spread) going. I'm a decent size, not huge (5'11", 221, ~8-9%), and I wear a tank top and sweatpants. It's comfortable, cooler, and I don't give a crap if it gets ripped to pieces.

Dress how you like, people. Sound like a buncha girls. Do you criticize what people wear when they walk by you on the street? Live and let live... obviously these little dudes don't think they're huge, so just lay your own dismorphia issues to rest and lift some damn weights.

damn, well since most of you went berserk with what i said. ok, i dont care. i hate these guys b/c they constantly flex, and grab their bicep thinking they are huge. then they hang and lean on equipment like they are posing.

so all of you are saying that scrawny kids with no muscle walking around your gym constantly flexing and posing doesnt get under your skin?

if it doesnt thats fine. whatever. you all can kiss my ass.

Chill, biscuit. :fro:

Yeah, it gets annoying sometimes... but let it ride. If you're a bigger guy, they know it, and so does everyone else. Don't let the little people threaten you. ;)

Do you not think that you have some serious problems when you find yourself sitting around getting all worked up over what someone else is wearing?

Did you ever think that they're flexing to see / feel progress, not to try to impress you? Who cares if they were. Grow up.

If it makes you feel better just start copying whatever exercises they do and do twice the weight. NO MATTER WHAT...even if your form falters...if u can do 2 times the weight they are using than go three times as much.

Guys wearing singlets don't bother me, some people are more comfortable with their body than other I guess. I don't think you shouldn't wear a singlet if you feel you don't look tough or big enough! Do you really give a shit what other people think? I mean you are ther for you not anyone else. Just like when you are doing an excercise beside someone doing the same thing with twice as much weight, do you care about how you look doing less weight than him, or your form?

Guys that pose all the time and lean on equipment looking good, big or not, make me laugh to myself, I don't take it too seriuosly, not as far as wanting to beat them up!

i could care less what anyone else does in the gym. i do my own thing and dont worry about anyone else, unless its a hot female, then i worry about what they are wearing. :D

Yea,

I like wearing tank tops too. Not to show off my muscle necessarily but to see the pump I get when I hit it hard. Sheesh seems silly to cover up what you are trying to build this post makes no sense.

Guy, you have to be the most insecure guy there is. I am not big(what weight class does this start at?) and I wear tanktops because my "intensity" is high and its hot as hell. I start of in layers but I begin to peel when I get going.

I get upset with you big fucks that sit around on machines, taking up space and watching people instead of working out keeping us so-called "small guys" from getting bigger.

Stop entertaining you ignorance and entertain the weight!!!

By the way what constitutes a person to be in the small guy/ big guy catergory in the gym? I've been told that I was 'lil' big ass muthafucka, what does that actually mean? Can someone help me?

Exactly. I am by no means huge, but I usually wear something on with tight arms or a tank top or whatever. It is motivational to see what I could look like if I was bigger (when I'm all pumped up). Also helps me with the "mind muscle" thing if I can see what I am working on.

It'll be fucking freezing outside and in the gym and I'll wear shorts on leg day.

Of course I'm sweating my ass off by the end so its also nice to be wearing shorts on that account aswell.

Well i'm not exactly the biggest guy i the gym but i wear cutt offs all the time cuz they are more comfortable when liftin as wells as it is nice to see your muscles when u r working them to see if your are doing it right as well as motivation

I personally would consider someone like Lee Priest a 'lil' big ass muthafucka" just because he is HUGE :eek2: but really short. Are you vertically challenged?

ND

Not Really...

I don't seem to think that I am "vertically challenged." I have by many people that are bigger than I. 5"10 stature I stand, but I usually lift with tall and much heavier people. I don't consider myself to be big, or huge by any means but were do you we draw that line?

I think that Lee Priest Is a "SCIENCE PROJECT!" That little muthafucka is HUGE a damn mutant. He is on a totally different level.

LOL, I'm 5'10" as well and I would consider myself to be somewhat vertically challenged. My g/f is only 5' so that makes me feel tall sometimes. If someone told you you were big though, I would bet that you're a pretty big dude. I do not think you can draw a line though as it is a totally subjective thing. Just take it as a compliment! I've had people say I looked big before and at 5'10" 180 I am FAR FROM THAT!!

ND

I don't mind tank tops, what bothers me is when men wear spandex, or fat women wear spandex or when old women wear spandex, why the hell don't the 21 year old hot women wear spandex?

i hear alot of the guys at my gym say shit like this as well. but from what i understand you dont have to be an egomaniac just because you wear tank tops. whatever makes you feel good, wear it. and people who has enough time in the gym to validate what other people are wearing should focus more on their training than anything else. i myself always wear long sleeved clothing. i like to keep warm when i train..the more i sweat, the more im enjoying it.

please

please if you were really swole you could see your muscles through your t-shirt, there must be a bunch of weak wife beater guys catching ofense in here:fro:

man... that's how we all started. don't pretend like you didn't do it too :)

i had my share of flexing in front of the mirror.... never did understand it, but looking back i understand why i was laughed at when i did it.

mind your business and leave a big corpse.

I don't really care what they wear, I just wish they wouldn't feel the need to pose in the mirror after every set.:(

I wear whatever is comfortable for the temp.
Cold=Sweatshirt
Warm=T-Shirt
Hot=Cut off Sleeves

I never wear a tank top or Wifebeater only because I don't like
the sweat dripping everywhere without something to soak it up.

Yeah, sounds like a little bitch-session! :kitty:

Don't you find it motivating to watch your muscles work? Agreed - just cuz someone is wearing a tank-top doesn't mean he thinks he's the shit.

Since when deos how big you are dictate what you can or cant wear. Ive seen some pretty good posts about irratating things but you are crying like my lil sister (15). Its not a fashion show you are there to workout. Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OHHHHHHH I cant stand these little boys either :)

There should be a new LAW in gyms all across the land for all guys....YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 17inch ARMS TO WEAR A SLEVELESS SHIRT IN THE GYM!!

Now it is said and now it shall be!

I usually prefer to see the bodypart I'm working - its not showing off, more along the lines of being able to see your weaknesses. Isn't there a part in Arnold's first book about him cutting off the bottom legs of his sweatpants so he could see his weak calves and be motivated to work them harder?

Of course, there are limits...there's a difference between wearing a sleeveless T or a normally-cut tank and a Y-back or string tank. Wearing something for freedom of movement and being able to see what you're working is one thing, but there's a line between that and showing skin for the sake of showing off...if you are in the second group, you need to have something worthy of showing.

And Congress needs to pass the "Spandex Licensing Act" to require anyone who wants to wear spandex shorts (tights, singlets, etc.) to meet certain asthetic standards. :D It's like when you go to a beach in Florida and you see a guy (German and Italian tourists are known for this) with one of those eating-contest competitor guts wearing a Speedo, and you think to yourself "that's just not right." (Or just  .)

I have been working out for exactly 1 year now. I can agree with what some people say is alittle annoying when you see someone with 12 inch arms where a sleeveless shirt. I started out at 13.5 inches and worked upto alittle over 16. I rarely where a sleeved t-shirt, in fact i rip the sleeves off. It isn't because I like to show off or anything, but like njmuscle said, I too like to see what I am training.

I always train in a sports bra and shorts. Not hoochie coochie outfits, but functional and stylish. For one thing, I get hot when I work out. Anyone who doesn't get hot isn't working hard enough. And I like to look good for me, not for anyone else, except well my husband who's training w/ me.

I used to hate my legs and never wore shorts, then I too read about Arnold cutting off his sweats so he'd work calves harder. That worked with my legs too. Now they look good, I really like seeing them! It's motivating seeing my muscles work, especially doing db curls, lateral raises or lunges :p . So now it's both a heat and vanity thing - hey whatever works!

hehe!! its not an issue in my gym cause only 4 or 5 other dudes use it and come in every 3rd or 4th day so im usually there alone (its my school gym) but i dont wanna say anything cause im not anything big ,but i see dudes "lifting" 15 kgs on each machine for about 10-15 reps!! im thinking wtf?? they would be better to do push ups at home......

key word: kids

the key word is "kids". Usually those skinny guys are a) kids... who dont give a shit. and b) just started working out (hens why their so skinny) and probably have better things to worry about then "Am i showing off my arms, oh my god what will the other guys think" probably just wearin it cause its good workout gear.

G Lapagola- do you go to Clemson?

I think you workout at my gym... I am one of those skinny bastards that poses in front of the mirrors and leans on the equipment. I also wear wife beaters 24/7. I have assorted colors and sizes depending on the occasion. I know my arms might only be 13.657 inches fully pumped, but I feel comfortable with my sexuality, and like the way I look naked. If you have a problem with this-- I'll look for you at the gym next time and we can discuss this issue further.

To the guy who hates spandex -

- come over to Europe, all the cyclists wear spandex. I personally quite like it when hot guys wear spandex to the gym :D

Anyway, the hot girls don't wear it coz they KNOW you guys are looking at them!

circusgirl

You guys get pissed over the stupidest shit. I wear whatever i have clean... Some people, like me, wear tank tops so they can see their muscles when they are working out... Dont think its that big of a deal, who really cares?

Remember we all started out small and tiny. Thats why we go to the gym to get bigger and stronger. Why should people be embarassed about being small. Its no big deal.

Also i bet a good majority of us would look small as fuck standing next to some pro BBers. Im 220 lbs but some of the top pros would make me look like a scrawny bitch

HA HA THIS IS HILARIOUS.

I WEAR WHATEVER THE FUCK IS CLEAN. IF THAT IS A TANK TOP, FINE. IF THAT IS A TEE SHIRT FINE. I DON'T GET WHY YOU WOULD ACTUALLY CARE WHAT SOMEONE WEARS IN THE GYM AS LONG AS IT COVERS MR. PEEPERS AND MR. STARFISH.
