Yeah for another gas guzzling, polluting eyesore.

If you want to drive a pathetic little wind-up toy, then knock yourself out. I like a car with substance and POWER (I won't even look at a car under 200hp). You can have your SmartCar or whatever...I'll take that bad-boy with a Hemi anyday.

You can have a hybrid with more than 200hp :)

Take a pill. Any need for the profanity?

(1) It's a concept, there hasn't been an announcement about production yet. They may announce at NAIAS next week, or not...

(2) It's heavy - over 4100 pounds.

(3) If the 300C and Charger are any indication, the SRT8 version with the big "Hemi" will be close to $40K.

the torque on that thing would rule

saleen now makes a truck...550 hp and 500 lbs of torque.... it smokes the viper/dodge truck in all aspects

very nice, yes it wil guzzle gas but if you have to worry about gas prices when buying a vehicle you cant afford to buy a new car anyway

Notice how many people are tuning Chrysler Hemi cars and trucks... They're not, 'cause they blow up if you try to massage much more power out of them. Turbocharging and supercharging is right out.

all drag/funny cars use a hemi design.

why do they blow up?

Not the same thing, at all. The engine currently in production is not related in any way to the old 426 Hemi from the '60s, or the Chrysler Firepower Hemi engine from the '50s, which are the basis for the drag racing engines.

As for why they blow up, I dunno, I guess they under-engineered the new design.

this is ONLY a concept at the moment, but seeing as how Dodge seems to be one of the few American mfgs that has any balls, this will most likely see production if they can find the space to actually build them...

production is at it's limit in Canada now on the lX platform...

this should be a winner even at $40K... i think it looks amazingly hot, and the 420hp Hemi will be a rip snorting bag of fun...

i recently traded in a Magnum RT due to the shitty gas mileage, much lower than the claimed number on the sticker... it was a hoot to drive, but $50 a week was a bit too much than i wanted to pay in gas...

Dodge quality is not on par with the Japanese, nor German counterparts though... not even close IMO...

Chevrolet is going to be showing a Camaro concept at the NAIAS in Detroit next week. It doesn't appear to be as close to potential production as the Dodge though.

The next "big" thing to keep an eye out for?

New Nissan/Infiniti GT-R.

Debute at 39th Tokyo Motor Show (07)
3058 pounds
Rear wheel drive or "e-4WD"
Twin Turbo VQ32DETT (nissan 350z engine)
480ps @ 7,200rpm
7 speed Getrag sequential transmission

Should be insane!

sounds more expensive than a z06

and this is an american car thread by the way :)

Then why are we discussing a car from a German-owned company that will be manufactured in Canada?

The price point has not really been set yet.

Are you kidding me right now. Have you seen how "great" the new Ford and GM designs are. Oh wait they don't have shit.

Judging from the other SRT8 models... It certainly won't be less than the Charger.

They've got V8s that work. You can get 1000 HP out of a supercharged Ford "Modular" V8 from the last-generation Mustang SVT Cobra. Chevy's got the Corvette with the LS2 V8 and the Corvette Z06, both of which are good enough stock, but the tuners can get quite a bit more out of them.

So why are the tuners avoiding the "Hemi"?

Chrysler's got the Viper, which speaks for itself, and what else? A de-contented version of the last-generation Mercedes E-Class platform and a truck engine.

Friends don't let friends drive MOPAR.

4100 pounds!?! great googly moogly!! That's almost as heavy as some of the heifers in my gym!!

It looks like a mustang rip off.

Why is the viper only 500 and some hp when this "V-8" is 425?

What is the big deal of a hemi!?! There are a bunch of "hemispherical" engines used in cars all the time now.

OH, and it had better have a musical horn since it looks like a newage charger.

The original Challenger was no lightweight either. It was almost as heavy as a Coronet/Charger. In 1970 the Challenger weighed 3800 lbs, when a Mustang weighed 3250.

It IS a Mustang rip off. So were the originals. Face it, Ford created the "pony car" genre with the Mustang in 1964. Plymouth was first to the game a year later with the Barracuda, which was little more than a Valliant with a fishbowl grafted onto the back. Chevy didn't get in on the act 'til 1967 with the Camaro. Dodge finally got their own version of the Barracuda in 1970 with the Challenger.
