do you believe in god?

PuddleMonkey said:
Agnostic. I believe in sense experience, I wasn't around many years back so how would I know what happened? All I can do is take others word for it. But I do know the apple is real to me because I can taste it. The spider building its web on my back fence is real because I can see it. The river is real because I can hear it. My penis is real because I can touch it, and do I ever! You get the idea.

what about air? Is that real? I can't see it.

who were we talking about here?

right now if you wanted to...if you really wanted to.you could see god,you could feel god
you could here god....if you dont want to then you never will its pretty simple.god only comes to them who truely seek for him and not for them seeking for a his hand but for them that seek his face.

java, i never miss an episode of bullshit. this thread merely poses the question what do you believe and why. curious that no one is really explaining WHY they believe what they believe. the non believers seem to be basing beliefs on emotion as much as believers. when one is being "rebellious" they are as subject to irrationality as those that "capitulate" i could be wrong but i think i detect rebellion in a lot of these post. btw humanism and the like are religions. sans god but religions none the less. i would love to see some in-depth explanations of beliefs here. i may be dissapointed. oh well maybe that fag puddles is right.......chirp.....

A) you must not have been reading alot of posts here then, because alot of people explained what they beleive and why.

B) I think what you perceive as "rebelliousness" is people waking up to the world.........finally. After all this time people are realizing that organized, dogmatic religions have driven humanity apart and created much hate and intolerance.

i have read each and every post. i am painfully aware of the death and destruction that religion has caused and is causing as i type. truth with a capital T is the most dangerous entity on earth and i am pleased that folks are "waking up." hell i used that exact term yesterday in a post to javaguru. i am not referring to ppls passionate discourse but rather "im too smart for this god stuff" " ha ha ha silly theist" or conversely " i beleive because the world is so fuckin beautiful" maybe thats to simple for me. dude i could complicate a cup of black coffee!!! i will shut the fuck up now.

it's about as likely as you believing in santa, since they are both an old wives tale that people believe because their friends and parents tell them to.
The only difference being eventually your parents tell you there is no santa and money making churches try even harder to make you believe their is a god.

there are beautiful, uplifting, and 'heavenly' sights and events in nature or in life that happen all the time. there's no need to attribute it to "god", but if you need that excuse to explain things, then i hope it works for you.

i also hope you find reality one day. because as insulting as that may sound, its the same as someone saying they hope I find god.

Atheist.

No evidence to believe that the universe was designed or created, for as magnificent as it is, its full of flaws an inefficiencies (Christians will tell you it was perfect until flawed man sinned and ruined it all, before that animals all lived in harmony!).

Also, if you believe there is a God, then who created that god? How was HE designed, how did HE come into existence?
If, as you point out we are imperfect, where did the ability to think of something more perfect come from?

Answers on a postcard please.

seriously, it always boggled my mind when people say that. Why does one need to find god? Is god hiding? Or when they say - you will find out when you die  Blech, find out what? I'll burn in hell? Oh, please.....
