Determining "how much daily Protein you need"

I've always gone with the 1-1.5 grams/per pound of b.weight rule. Have been able to put on plenty of muscle so it works for me.

Just remember that too much of anything can be bad.

Question: Is it 1 - 1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight or per pound of lean body mass? Assuming I'm like 15% bf at 250lbs it might make a difference in a mrp or two per day.
 
I think if there are going to be guidelines as far as how much protein to take it should be based on lean body mass,not body weight.Alot of people say take in 1.5-2 grams per pound of body weight.If you have 2 guys that have the same lean body mass,but one guy weighs 50 pounds more because he is fatter then he would have to take in 100 grams more than the leaner guy according to the standard rule of thumb,wich does not make much sense.
 
I usually take 1g/lbs. Unless I'm "On". To be honest, I think this protein intake madness is over rated. The best physics I've seen in my life were inmates. And last time I checked they were eating less than 100 g of protein ED.

Here's my spin. I have religiously taken 300-325 grams for years.

However, once in awhile.........I'll try to get in as much as 400 grams for a couple of months and switch to as low as 200 grams for 3-4 months to notice any difference. NONE! I know significant visual muscle is NOT built within that time frame but you'd think I'd notice something. :confused:

Is it really necessary to take in all that protein???? I've read plenty of stories how some of the body-builders of old took in 200 grams of protein and hell..........they were a hell of a lot bigger than me.

Stats: 5'11, 203 lbs, 10%

that will depend on your body type, ectomorphs and endomorphs need 1.5-2g/lb of bodyweight, mesomorph (if you gain muscle easy and tend to stay lean) 1g/lb is all you need
