Depression can be a hard cross to bare. I go through it from time to time and anti- depressants only fuck me up. I have no answer but wish you well bro.
Oh yeah I've found valium to helpful for really down days if you can get it.
I'll never understand why doctors backed off prescribing benzo's becasue of their addicitve quality's when now instead they push drugs which require addiction in order to be effective.
Depression is a scary sickness that is best treated by a doctor. Self-medicating is an extremely dangerous practice. There is a reason only doctors are aloud to prescribe med’s. “you” deciding what “you” need can sometimes lead to more trouble. Like if you follow the advice in this thread, regarding taking valium to ease your nights. If you have not taken Valium, it will put you in a blanked-out, whacked-out, haze of a state, especially at the dose that you’re sure to decide is “the right dose” for yourself. Then one day, you may say, well, if the valium makes me sleep good at night, then maybe one or two during the day will help. – and thus you are now taking valium day in and day out.
This story is all to common in my practice. For those of you who do not know, I am an addiction management doctor. I treat patients with addiction, many to benzos’ which valium is one of. To fill you in, withdrawal from valium can last weeks and that’s just the time when your on the ground moaning, wanting to die, because your entire body aches, you have nose bleeds, cold sweats, you haven’t slept in a week, and your about to be hospitalized because you have begun to have seizures- which could kill you. And this is only the beginning.
There is a reason anti-depressants are the number one prescribed drug, they work. Maybe not in 100% of the cases, but in the majority, they are lifesavers. Ask yourself, what do you have to loose? – you could go the other road, self-medicate, take valium, and in a year, have lost your marriage all you possessions, sold because you need cash for you habit, and end up in my office.
There is nothing wrong with taking an anti-depressant; it does not mean you are any less a man. Some need meds for high cholesterol, some need it for their mood.
I realize my examples are extreme, but after hearing this story over and over, if I could prevent it before it happens, it’s worth it.
I’m in no way saying that if you takes drugs you will become addicted. Ask yourself, what type of people do you think I treat at my clinic? Losers, druggies? Bums? Sure, maybe a few. The majority, and when I say majority I mean 65-75% all have full-time jobs, some are teachers, lawyers, business men and women – people like you
Remember know one sets out to become an addict, it just sort of happens.
