Dave Lowry, koryu, bujutsu etc..

im def. interested in that and i might pick up that book.. i need books to read and as a side note if a few people could pm me some books to read about martial arts i would appreciate it.

ok and enough apologizing.. if we didnt want to read we could click away.. obviously you got some of our attentions. now my turn to bore you w/ what i think.

i really have no desire to learn these old hidden secret techniques but i am very interested in the mindset and how they trained and prepared themselves. i love sport fighting and my goal is to become the best i can and train people to be the best they can. but that is for the dojo or ring or whatever..

but i also have a life great friends and family who i would die for in a heart beat if i could save them. in a real self defense situation i want to be as prepared to best protect my family (not my lord) as best i can. i also strive for this in training too but realistically i am focusing on sport more.

i am interested in some 'modern samurai' concepts from this angle. realizing people arent on horses, walking around in armor or carrying swords. the real threats are people who are crazy drugged out and maybe carrying guns/knives. I want to know how to best defend myself against these people and i truly believe that sport fight training is a great route to excel in this area. regardless if its boxing, MTT, Judo, wrestling, UFC, san shou, etc etc if its something that has multiple aspects of combat and you are prepared or trained to take out skilled fighters you will be well on your way to defending yourself on the street.

now there isnt really a sport where you try to disarm a guy w/ a knife or gun. you can practice it but then you start going down the road of pre arranged drills and what not which are effective but you cant safely practice defending yourself from a real gun but you can practice going into a ring with a maniac and trading blows and see what happens relatively safely and i feel that translates over to self defense in a great way. and deserves a lot more credit then some people realize especially some so called masters of self defense who sell tapes and instructionals on no nonsense tactics or whatever catch phrase they are using.
