being a sexual predator can't be compared to what color a person is born.
Lets see how you feel when you have kids and worry about them being sexually assaulted. lets see how you feel when the creepy guy on your road is looking at your little girl and licking his lips. lets see how you feel when your 12 year old says she met a nice 'boy' online in a chat room and she's going to go meet him at the mall.

I do believe pedophiles are wired differently. As I'm sexually attracted to men, I will never be able to change my preference (well unless Stilleto finally gives in to me), just as these men are sexually attracted to kids.
It's a sickness that can NEVER be cured. These people know they are sick, but it's true, they cannot help it.
The only way to help them is to lock them up for life.
Imagine being born with this illness? How sad for these ppl. But not everyone is born "normal"

I haven't read the thread...but I think it's a bit like waving a stiff drink in front of an alcoholic. You can't really put this kind of undercover operation in the same category as other types if you accept that pedophiles have uncontrollable urges. It doesn't excuse the urges, doesn't excuse the crimes, but it's a sick thing to wave in front of their faces. Anyone ever seen "little children?" There's a man in the movie who's a pedophile...and by the end you actually end up pitying the guy because he's so clearly sick and he hates himself so much that he castrates himself.

Anyway...picture this...Joe pedophile is trying to resist his sickness...so he peruses the internet because he sees it as a harmless way to satiate his demons because he figures so long as he never meets or touches an underage child, he can avoid victimizing one. Then one comes along who WANTS to meet him....and the temptation is too much to bear. Only the boy or girl who is tempting and provoking them is really a cop.

It's easy to villianize these people. I was raped by an adult man when I was 13 and it shaped my life whether I like it or not. I've made some posts recently about feeling like I didn't really have a youth and this is part of the reason why - no child should have to see the evils of the world in such brutal fashion. Once a sick person makes the leap to a sick person who has committed a crime, all bets are off.

But who can say that all of these people arrested through these means would commit a crime if they were not taunted and teased by these fake underage characters? I don't know....so much gray area. I don't think there's any easy answer here.

i believe that may be true.
they might not be able to help their attraction to children. whether they are born with it or it developed from a molestation - it doesn't matter. It's obviously as wrong as wrong can get to have sex with a child. It is not up to anyone here to determine what age a child turns into an adult. is 13 old enough to decide? 11? 9?

is dateline dangling bait in front of these pedophiles? yes.
if they don't, will those same men eventually find a real teen or pre-teen to have sex with? most likely. and they will.
might they find a ... 12 year old? 10? 7? who knows. If doing that show stops ANYONE from pursuing a young boy or girl, whether consensual or not, or real or set up... then bravo.

anyone that can't see how good that show is- to expose these people and this sickness, clearly hasn't had children.
