well, you and i are comparing apples and oranges......i am talking about driving on american roads, with american driving conditions and american drivers, who are not known for their patience and high automotive maintenance. you seem to be talking about sterile, racing conditions, with highly trained drivers and a full pit crew for back up.
with the exception of authbahn driving, most european roads are, i am told, 2 lane roads, with speed below 50 mph? i am also told most european drives accumulate far fewer miles per year than american drivers. because of these differences, cars that are adequate in europe fall apart and fail miserably in america.
every renault car foisted off on the american buying public, since the 404 model of the 50's, up to the fuegos and alliances thatamerican motors tried to sell of the early 80's, have been fickle, trouble prone, delicate cars, totally unsuitable for american driving conditions and american drivers, who like to turn key and "git and go", who routinely rack up 15 to 20K miles a year.
formula 1 racing is interesting to read about in Road & Track magazine, fun to watch on ESPN, but has absolutely NOTHING to do with driving on american interstates and congested big city traffic driving.
