damn american cars

well, you and i are comparing apples and oranges......i am talking about driving on american roads, with american driving conditions and american drivers, who are not known for their patience and high automotive maintenance. you seem to be talking about sterile, racing conditions, with highly trained drivers and a full pit crew for back up.Mandinka2 said:

every renault car foisted off on the american buying public, since the 404 model of the 50's, up to the fuegos and alliances thatamerican motors tried to sell of the early 80's, have been fickle, trouble prone, delicate cars, totally unsuitable for american driving conditions and american drivers, who like to turn key and "git and go", who routinely rack up 15 to 20K miles a year.
formula 1 racing is interesting to read about in Road & Track magazine, fun to watch on ESPN, but has absolutely NOTHING to do with driving on american interstates and congested big city traffic driving.
as for your snide flag comment: america is a melting pot of all nationalities. the only flag i recognize has stars and bars on it!!!!!

FWIW, Mercedes-Benz has been making cuts across thier lines since ~1996, materials, testing, components, and thier reliablity has been dropping.
BMW E46 M3s were mysteriously blowing motors left and right when they came about, thier stopgap measure was 60 weight motor oil. 750s and 850s were notorious for thier unreliability (the V12, not sure how the new one stacks up).
Porsche is not owned by the VW Group, it is still independantly owned. Although, there has always been a connection between the 2 companies, every single Porsche ever built has had some VW componentry or shared components (even if they're just eletrical relays).
