Has anyone gone to see it this weekend yet? I am thinking about going tomorrow and wondering if it is any good.

honestly, I thought the movie was pretty slick all the way up to the last 20 sec of it... lemme just say this, there better be a damn sequel

oh yeah, the movie will make you dizzy as hell

Sounds like worth seeing I guess. There are plenty of movies where the ending makes you think WTF, but overall still good. Maybe I will take some dramamine before going to make sure I don't get motion sickness. ;)

yeah, this is one of those movies you gotta see in the theatres, definitely wouldn't be that entertaining on DVD

Cool I will definitely check it out.

Wasn't this called "Blair Witch" or something the first time around?

The previews didn't look like Blair Witch to me, but looks to have the same dizzy factor. It seems like it is just someone filing it all from a video camera. I think I will take dramamine before I go. I get dizzy pretty easily.

just saw it.

god DAMN. bitch had me glued to my seat from start to finish.

the first 20 mins are real annoying as it's a stupid preppie's going away party shit. then it fucking begins with a bang. you gotta c it in a movie.

cinematography was amazing. it must not be easy to record a whole movie camcorder style w/o it being annoying (blair witch). it did a good job at allowing you a good look at the insanity that was going on.

i saw it last night and loved it. i was mesmerized and for a 'monster' movie, it was incredibly realistic. Much better than 'i am legend'.
it took me a few minutes to get used to the camera... i get motion sickness and had to adjust, but it was worth it.

I expected more given all of the hype. More suspense and/or gore. The FX were good and play well in the theatre, but I didn't think their Blair Witch approach to story telling was 1/10th as riveting as the actual Blair Witch film. Moreover, most of the characters annoyed me, and the most satisfying part of the movie was watching my least favorite character die.

If any of you have trouble finding a seat in the theatre, just yell, "Your mom's out front. She says she found your stash and she wants to talk to you NOW!" About half of the chairs should open up. :)

Ok I added the numbers to clarify that you made three general points, all of which I completely agree with.

There'll be a sequel to explain it.........supposedly at the very end, when the shot cut's out to the two main characters a month before on the ferris wheel at coney island......"SUPPOSEDLY" you can see something big splash down in the ocean behind them....like way out in the ocean. So they're saying the thing dropped in from outer space I guess. There's also talk that this might actually have been a godzilla remake.

Oh, and did anyone else piss themselves with laughter when the little fuckers were tweaking the shit out of those characters in the subway? the sound those things made when they attacked had me rolling out.......that would have been worth the price of admission right there. I'm only sorry they didn't get to fuck more shit up.

I swaw it tonight and thought it was an 8.5 out of 10.

I liked the fact that it wasnt just focused on the monster killing shit. I've seen that before, and I don;t want to pay to see CGI explosions for sake of blowing shit up.

I went in mainly to see how well the tension and fear comes through the camera, and if it makes me feel like I'm really watching this unfold in real life, does it instill me with the emotion worry and fear that I should have if confronting that dillemma and it did that quite well, so I was pleased with the experience. It was an account of people going through this nightmare and trying to escape and taking us along for the ride, It wasn't about a monster killing shit. It does a great job of putting you in the mix. I don;t see how someone can't enjoy that and would rather just watch the detruction from the 3rd person.

The one thing I did't like is that they made no reference to the underlying moral of the movie within the film itself. Yes it had a moral, but you won't figure it out unless you play the alternate reality interactive games online or at least do some digging to read up on the film. The moral is: Stop destroying the environment. The monster is nature coming to bite us on the ass for us polluting the oceans. It's a mutated creature that was born from years of toxic chemicals being tossed into the oceans.

That's funny I thought Blair Witch was completely laughable and hokey and didn't spark any bit of fear or tension in me at all like this film did. I guess I honestly believe that something like this is amazingly enough more plausible than a wich killing people in the woods.

My two favorite parts of the movie was

- When the army first moves in on attack and unleashes fury
- When the stealth fighter drops the bombs and outta nowhere the monster jumps up and knocks their helicopter down

I definitely think there will be another. They left too much open for there not to be. I will definitely watch the sequel. You really need to see this in theatre. It would not be the same intensity at home. The surround sound was very loud and made it that much more awesome to watch on the big screen.

Is this movie kinda in a 1st person view?

I always wondered why they never tried to make a movie that was shown completely through the eyes of the main character.

Hat to decide between the 2:10 show or the playoff game. I'll watch Cloverfield and watch the sportscenter highlights of the Pats game the rest of the week.

Yeah it is all through some guy's video camera. I think that is what made it more intense.

You guys just reminded me what the worst movie ever was:

The Blair Witch Project.

I guess I will go see Cloverfield next weekend since I am getting bugged to go.

because it would be hard to do cut-away shots. it would have to like be one long take and it would be annoying.

Peple don't get it - this is a 1st-person-view of your city being attacked. It's pretty fucking scary at some parts. Too realistic. The 'camcorder' part is just an excuse. Trust me, if u were there on 9/11 - your world be pretty jumpy and hectic too. So points for realism. And this movie was intense. I saw some girls leaving the theatre speechless/traumatized. Audiences are not used to 1st person horror.

If the filmmakers used the typical 3-rd person, voyeur approach. It'd be another cheesy monster flick. You're never scared when your view is always BEHIND the character running. Your view bounces around from camera angle to camera angle. You feel pretty safe. You never get the feelings of the characters.

And in the end - you label it 'pfft, another cheesy monster flick'.

Tell ya this much - i have a new found respect for Tokyo respects. Those poor people. Is this what they always went throuhg when Godzilla attacked? Damn.

Unf. you can only do so many 1st-person view movies before people starts yelling 'overdone'. So you gotta use them wisely.

Did you ever see "Doom" with the Rock??

They last part of that movie they cut to a 1st person shooter type of view that was cool to watch and really put you "into" the movie.

DOOM was beyond stupid. and it's box office #'s prove it. That 1st person view was dumb, i couldn't see squat. With CF - it's about showing the fear and terror people were going thru. I never heard the rock go 'omg, what the fuck is going on'.

The sequel will probably go back to the 3rd person normal view. Then it'll go back to being just another cheesy monster flick and just be like any other movie. Where we spend more time going 'ooh and aah' over the special effects and couldn't care less aobut the characters.

rule of filmmaking: 90% may like it. 10% won't and they'll bitch the loudest. Ignore the 10%. When Star Wars came out, it was panned the first weekend. It took almost 3 months before it took off.

I know the movie was lame but I dug the 1st person view.

motherfucker i have to watch it again?!

"They are reporting that the monster's origins on Earth actually appear in the movie. Their report, which actually comes from director Matt Reeves, says that the monster can be seen falling from the sky into the water in the background of the very last scene in the movie with Rob and Beth on the Ferris Wheel. This brings up speculation that the monster might have come from space, but that is just a rumor. However, they say if you watch closely you can see "something" fall into the water. Matt Reeves said in a coded quote, "Watch the skies, my friends. Watch the skies."

I just read this online also. I heard at the last clip of the two in the amusement park or whatever it shows this. I totally didn't pay attention. We knew the movie was over so we were getting out of our seats at that clip. I definitely would not mind watching this movie again.

If it's all shown through the camcorder in 1st person then this doesn't makes sense. Did the monster take off after he destroyed the city, but then couldn't quite make it, and fell back to earth?

The last scene of the movie was actually the beginning. It was a playback on the camcorder that was showing a clip from right before it all went down.

I noticed that object fall into the water in the last shot. Just figured it was the monster coming from outer space. LOL at all the people who just sat there and didn't want to believe the movie was over.

I've heard surprisingly good reviews but have not seen it myself.

good movie
audio and visual effects were awesome

although felt a little jipped due to the short length of the film and the cost of the ticket

7/10

Just think how jipped the people that made the thing feel about you paying only 7 bucks to sit through 85 minutes worth of film that they took hundreds of man hours to make.

well no my reply was mainly sarcasm.

But really I think people should be much more critical in their choosing of the films of they pay to see. Wait on reviews and such unless you know youre going to like it even somewhat.

ok i checked out the ending with the view of the ocean at coney island and i do not see anything falling into the water...can someone explain on what side the screen this was supposed to be?

ok well here's waht im gathering about this thing falling from the sky...

For one it apprently doesn't exist. i was reading a blog with a shitload of comments from people that went to see the film again JUST for this thing falling out of the sky and no one has seen anything, BUT, on one of the viral sites associated with the film, there is mention of a satellite falling from the sky (I haven't read it personally). However the monster's first attack on anything was apprently this oil rig out int he center of the Atlantic if you watch some of the viral vids assoiated with the film, so even if there was something falling out of the sky it in no way would be seen near NYC.

fuck reviews. They're from losers who want polished professional camera angles, a happy ending, and the President flying an F-18 and saving the day.

And critics. If the movie isn't about a French man, who plays piano, depressed about not connecting with his mom -- they pan it. They never agree with the mainstream.

Know what's fucked. I can never play Rampage or Godzilla: King of Monsters ever again. Now i know what the people in the streets must be going through.
