And add real drums

oh yeah .... I just downloaded House of the Rising Sun .... I don't see any similarities at all besides the fact that it's generally a relaxing song.

For any of you that play an instrument and experiment with writing your own stuff, do you sometimes find that when you come up with a good melody, you later realize it sounds very similar to some other song? It is hard to come up with something very original, but when I do, it is usually spontaneous, not calculated.

Yep ... I came up with this BANGIN' heavy metal riff a while back and then heard a riff that sounded almost exactly like it on the radio .... it was some song by Fear Factory. Damnit! I was proud of that riff. :argh!:

As of late, I've been trying to listen to as much different music as possible so I can avoid coming up with stuff that has already been put out.

similar progression, slightly differing cadence.. I wouldn't worry about it unless you actually plan to play it live
