I used to hate cardio but the older I get I love it more and more!!

im with ya on that one...use to hate it as a youngster...my idea of cardio back then was plowing my g/f for a hour or two and calling it a day...but as i'm getting older, i love the old school cardio plus 30-60 minutes of cardio in the gym everyday...plus you get to look at the hotties asses in tight shorts in front of you while climbing the stairmaster lol...kinda helps for motivation hahaaha

I'm new to this fourm but did u just say u do cardio on an empty stomach? if so ur just hurting urself man cause as everyone know's you get ur energy from food and the oxygen you breath. Unless you don't have time because u might have a busy schedule. In my opinion your doing to much cardio unless ur doing low intesity.

no he is actually putting himself in the optimum situation for burning fat. when you wake up, your blood glucose levels are at its lowest - in turn allowing you to get right into fat burning mode. Am cardio also ramps your metabolism up for the rest of the day, so in turn you should be burning more calories throughout the day.

next time dont jump at telling someone they're doing something the wrong way til' you know what you're talking about

lol yeah but u need glucose level high to have a good intensity workout to improve your training or ull just continue the same old routine and never accomplish anything. I know his attention was to put himself in that fat burning zone but I don't see the logic in that because you'll just end up eating wat u just burn. What ever calories you have left through out the whole day and don't use up turns into fat anyway. If he eats 2 hours before he trains he'll will not only burn more calories but also build atleast a very small amount of muscle. I have no problem doing cardio everyday long as they are low intensity and short time about like 20 min. I'm a MMA fighter with Experience and education of biology. This is wat gives me a good reason to know exactly wat im talking about. As for diet u have to eat a complete balance meal alittle bit of protein and carbs , u can't just have more than the other because those nutrient need to combine with each other to feed you that energy.

i guess no one ever told you that the BEST time to 1. burn fat and 2. keep the metabolism up to continuously burn fat at a higher rate throughout the day is to do AM cardio and specifically to do AM cardio on an empty stomach...trust me when i tell you I am burning fat and have NO problem putting on muscle...i'm 5'11 240lbs 17%BF (up from 235lbs 18% BF last week) with a 45" chest and 18" arms...PS...i use to be almost 40% BF and FAT after my motorcycle accident...

btw...if i did 20 minutes of cardio per day i'd die as my current work(job)/training regiment calls for atleast 2 hours of HIGH intensity cardio/PT everyday

here's the a neat little article you might want to read as it might actually teach you something that you DONT know...[/U]

Many people don't realize just how important a well timed cardiovascular program is when it comes to eliminating body fat. Whether it's early morning, late evening, the most important thing is that you just do it. Continuous cardiovascular exercise, such as running, walking, jogging, stair-climbing, or cycling, sustained for at least 30 minutes, will burn body fat no matter when you do it. However for the maximum benefits of fat loss you MUST ensure that you are performing your cardiovascular training first thing in the morning. You should consider getting up early and doing cardio before you eat your first meal - even if you're not a "morning person." Early morning aerobic exercise on an empty stomach has three major advantages over exercising later in the day.

Early in the morning before you eat, your levels of muscle and liver glycogen (stored carbohydrates) are low. If you eat dinner at 7 p.m. and you eat breakfast at 7 a.m., that's 12 hours without food. During this 12-hour overnight fast, your levels of glycogen slowly decline to provide glucose for various bodily functions that go on even while you sleep. As a result, you wake up in the morning with depleted glycogen and lower blood sugar - the optimum environment for burning fat instead of carbohydrate. How much more fat you'll burn is uncertain, but some studies have suggested that up to 300% more fat is burned when cardio is done in a fasted, glycogen-depleted state.

So how exactly does this work? It's quite simple, really. Carbohydrate (glycogen) is your body's primary and preferred energy source. When your primary fuel source is in short supply, this forces your body to tap into its secondary or reserve energy source; body fat. If you do cardio immediately after eating a meal, you'll still burn fat, but you'll burn less of it because you'll be burning off the carbohydrates you ate first. You always burn a combination of fat and carbohydrate for fuel, but depending on when you exercise, you can burn a greater proportion of fat relative to carbohydrate. If doing cardio first thing in the morning is not an option for you, then the second best time to do it would be immediately after weight training. Lifting weights is anaerobic (carbohydrate-burning) by nature, and therefore depletes muscle glycogen. That's why a post lifting cardio session has a similar effect as morning cardio on an empty stomach. The second benefit you'll get from early morning cardio sessions is what I call the "after burn" effect. When you do a cardio session in the morning, you not only burn fat during the session, but you also continue to burn fat at an accelerated rate after the workout. Why? Because an intense session of cardiovascular exercise can keep your metabolism elevated for hours after the session is over. If you do cardio at night, you will still burn fat during the session, so you definitely benefit from it. However, night time cardio fails to take advantage of the "after burn" effect because your metabolism drops like a ton of bricks as soon as you go to sleep. While you sleep, your metabolic rate is slower than any other time of the day.

YEs i heard this all before and I also do cardio in the morning but I eat first because it seems to works for me. There are alternative ways, ur objective is to lose as much bf in just in a short amount of time where i'm really talking about improving athletic ability but really I'm confuse do YOU MEAN BULKING OR cutting cycle. If your talking about a cutting cycle then nevermind about my whole statement which it seems to be. but if ur talking about bulking cycle then i stick of wat im talking about.

cutting cycles is all i ever do...i'm big enough as it is...no need for me to weigh 300lbs. + lol

Cardio training is a waste of time.

You want to raise your heart rate? Squat!

You want to rev the metabolism and burn calories? Stay active. Walk. Ride a bike. Play a sport. If you want to build muscles, lift weights.
