Car Stereo People

I hope the kid I talked to isn't typical of stereo people. He looked about 18, maybe 19, and of course he's an expert on everything I want (before even asking me what I want). He couldn't get it through his head that I didn't want a navigation system built in to the radio. I don't want a navigation system AT ALL! He kept trying to get me to consider it even though he had no reason to back it up as to why it would benefit ME. I couldn't tell you how many times he would just repeat, "but it would look so cool". And that wasn't even the worst part. I did a little research on what I have in the car now speaker wise before going in. He looked in the car when I got there to see what I was dealing with. Even after physically looking at my car and speakers he tried to sell me the wrong size speakers for the front doors. I let he go on about these incorrect Focal speakers for about 10 minutes and then I filled him in. Of course, he assured me I was mistaken about the door speakers. He then goes over to the computer to look it up and show me. He was wrong. Did he admit to his mistake? Of course not, he just said, "thats weird", "really weird". I'll probably try another place next week and see what happens. The trip wasn't a complete waste though, I did find a stereo I like. Its one of the nicer Kenwoods. And I kinda liked one of the Alpines too. Speaker wise the Boston Acoustics sounded killer.

lol don't let it surprise you man, that's typical of most people in car audio shops, and not just the younger employees. One guy tried convincing my friend that Memphis was the best gear out and it was revolutionary and had amazing SQ, etc. Memphis isn't bad but he was talking it up like it was fucking pure gold in the amps.

Which Bostons did you listen to? Pro60's?

My old Kicker Solo Barics where the best subs I ever bought (the square subs), very clear and deep bass.. Now I got Rockford Fosgate 12" P3's, not quite as good but still ridiculous.

Car audio all comes down to quality brand name... like HD said u really can get on 10" that will blow your hair back but its gunna cost a nice penny

Go to a place that has been in business for at least 10 years then only deal with the owner.

Haha shit the guy I mentioned was the owner and they've been in business there for like 20+ years.

Have you heard something like an IDMAX or JL's W6? It kind of surprises me someone would call an L5/L7 a clear sounding sub.

Quality brand name....brand name comes down to marketing, like how Bose has the general public fooled into thinking it's high-end but any home audio enthusiast will laugh in a salesman's face if they try and tell them that. And Alpine Type R's are the shit and Sony Xplod's are good subs for the money.
