Have you heard something like an IDMAX or JL's W6? It kind of surprises me someone would call an L5/L7 a clear sounding sub.
Quality brand name....brand name comes down to marketing, like how Bose has the general public fooled into thinking it's high-end but any home audio enthusiast will laugh in a salesman's face if they try and tell them that. And Alpine Type R's are the shit and Sony Xplod's are good subs for the money.
Well first off Sony and Bose make wack car audio in the first place, anybody that knows a little about car audio knows that home theatres and electronic brands like Sony/Panasonic/JVS/Pioneer don't compete in the car audio market to begin with.. So if they go to best buy to buy Sony Explodes because it's the first thing they see on the shelf then that's their fault.
My Kicker subs where clear and deep as fuck, I had em in my old car hooked up to a 1000 watt kicker amp, 2 6x9 alpines hooked to a alpine amp and a mtx crossover.... That shit blew my hair back almost to a point were it was too loud and I was used to loud music at the time bartending at a club... When I would smoke in the car you could see the smoke in the air vibrate and ripple to the bass. Spent about $2400 alone on audio for that car and it was well worth it.... If I were to buy the Solo X's that would put me at $800 a sub which is just ridiculous. And for some reason I don't think PuddleMonkey is bumpin 3-6 mafia down the street at 90% of the volume up. sooooooo, I wouldn't really recommend him wasting his money on that much bass
if you got $3000-$5000 to drop on a system go with one of these
I have been a fan of Pioneer CD/MP3 players. I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-860-MP, has all the right controls (13-band equalizer, crossover freqency filters for front - rear - subwoofer seperated so I can tweak each one). I have Alpine Type-R 5.25" Components in the front and Type-s 6X9's in the back that are ran off a 10 year old Clarion 500watt 4-channel amp that is a beast.
JL Audio 500.1 amp running 2 12" Rockford Power T1's.
JL amps are awesome IMO. Rockford is overrated and not as good as they once were but I have been using them for years and they have always been good to me.
I am always impressed on how well JL subs sound, You can pry throw a single JLw3 12" in and have it sound awesome.
Not a big fan of Kicker and their square subs, there are the most subs that I have seen that have been ceased or blown.
Depending on how much wattage you want to run to your subs, if you want to get the most out of your amp make sure the subwoofer cone is lightweight and moves the easiest as well as having a decent surround.
My Caddy has lots of sound deadening materials between the trunk and the rest of the car, so I had to bump up my wattage and will eventually make a bit bigger box and port it.
borris, I'm not even gonna bother. The simple fact that you listed Alpine F1 Status and Cerwin Vega's Stroker in the same list is enough for anyone somewhat informed to know you don't know the first thing you're talking about when it comes to car audio.

What can you tell me about Morel speakers? Multiple people have told me they rawk.
The Phoenix Gold's I linked you to are Morels. And yea they do rock. Going to need a strong amp if you want to get the most out of them, and definitely sound deaden the doors.
I'm sold on the Morels for the (two component I guess its called?) front door speakers. Still liking that Alpine deck for whatever reason. I need to decide if I want one badass amp to run everything or two different amps (one for the sub and another for everything else). I'm going to do one 12" sub in the trunk, just need to decide which brand. And I think the Boston Acoustic 6.5s for the back speakers.
Two-way, not two component. Are the preouts on the Alpine 2v or 4v? If you're getting the Morels for the front I doubt you can get away with just one amp. They really like and can take a lot of power, and it'll be hard to find a four-channel amp that'll power them and the sub that won't be very expensive.
One 12 than. Sealed or ported box?
PS Did you have that 3mil karma before?! I think maybe I'll just stalk you in karma bookie threads from now on if I start gambling.

LMAO there is more than a few things I see in that list that need to be changed, if that is where your car audio knowledge comes from, well, I rest my case.
What you failed to realized since you all did was copy and paste the "Competition" gear from that list is that you can't group all of those into one category. They serve different purposes.
You shouldn't be linking people who don't know car audio to that list, because an unsuspecting consumer will say oh okay thats the best stuff and he'll be pissed cause he bought a Solo X or Stroker and they will sound horrible. Rainbow Audio/Alpine F1 shouldn't be in the same list as Atomic/DD regardless if it is under an arbitrary label such as "competition."
