Spending $300 on rear speakers is a waste IMO, at least with a tighter budget. If you have money left over after everything else I guess if you really want them spend the money, but with the rears faded down what's the point of having $300 coaxials in the back?

That is true, with the front 4 speakers I can't even hear what the fuck is going on in the rear two speakers.

Some times I like to replace 1 component at a time to truly appreciate the sound.
I did that with a truck I had and might do it with my wife's little 4x4.
Replace the CD player first, then speakers a month later then add amp and sub a month or 2 after that.

It is amazing the results when you replace that GM player with an Alpine

Apparently they don't make a kit for my car? I've been told that at 3 places I went. I asked why and was told because not enough people replace the system in Lexus for them to justify mass producing one. But not a big deal, I just have to pay for a custom kit to be done.

Don't beleive them. There is a dash kit made for your car, it is just that the shops can't get them. I went to 5 different shops looking for a kit for my car, no one could find one. I spent a few minutes on a cadillac forum, found one for $20 that fit PERFECT.

Don't pay for them to custom make one, cuz your dash is not of the "norm" is shape or size would be my guess. If it was anything like my dash then it would take them quite a while to make a decent looking dash kit and that means lots unnecessary $, since they pry charge a bit more for fabrication.

BTW - What year and model is your car?

I don't care if I get flamed for this but here goes. I went back and read some of PM's first few posts in this thread so here goes:

DO NOT replace the stock speakers in your car right now!
Buy a new Alpine CD/MP3 Player let that player drive your stock speakers. then get a Rockford Amp to drive a JL sub 12".

See how you like that sound before spending any more money.

does your dash look like this?
