Budget expert: Taxing the rich won't fix the economy

nothing is going to fix the fucking deficit by itself. only question worth asking is if a policy leaves you better or worse off than before

Neither will taxing the pick3's moar

Analysis: Romney tax plan strongly favors the rich - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

According to the Tax Policy Center, Romney's plan would add $900 billion to the deficit in 2015, when the changes would go into full effect. The group has also found that the 20 percent tax cut, combined with Romney's proposal to repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax, would add $3 trillion to the deficit over ten years - even if the Bush-era tax cuts and more recent tax cuts are extended. (That part of the analysis looked only at the impact of those two proposals, not Romney's tax plan overall.)

so obivously taxing isn't the answer, maybe we can agree that reducing spending is the only way to effectively reduce the debt.
myself and others, mild conservatives, would find tax hikes on the racist rich a lot more platable if it was in combination with entitlement reform and a serious reduction of gov spending.
the buffet rule is pure politics with no real attempt to reduce debt just fire up the base

I'd go along with that, except that nobody, no matter how wealthy, should have to pay a higher tax rate than the poorest. Why bother to make yourself successful with finances, if you will just get into a higher tax bracket and actually have less money than if you made less in the first place? 10% flat tax for everybody... Of course Buffett wouldn't go for that since he'd be paying a lot more than he is. But most normal people would be paying less with 10% flat.

you think 10% would be enough? sounds awesome but i'd bet it would have to be higher.
it would take some real political balls to raise taxes on everybody, and would go against the class warfare/fairness bs obama is attempting to pull off, would turn the majority of obama's diehards off from him no way he would do it.
romney maybe after he was elected, we'll have to see...but it is the only sensible solution, combined with a real reduction in gov spending.
