So anyway, I am benching yesterday and I ask some dude to spot me on a burn out set 1 min after my last work set... I ask this little 135 lb dude for the spot since it is only 275 on the bar.... Anyway, the dude helps me get the last one up (16th rep) and proceeds to say -

"You know you should keep your feet close together when you bench or you will likely cause a muscle imbalance in your shoulders or overcompensate for a side if it gets weaker"

to which I said -
"That is funny cause when I have noticed that if you have 400+ on the bar if you have your feet close together you could very likely end up in the hospital when your ass tips off the side of the bench"
(yes sorry, I did pull the meathead card here)

to which he says -
"well I am a "ABCDE" (or whatever) trainer and I just thought you should know"

being that I am getting older I restrained myself and said -
"well I will keep that in mind" and rolled my eyes as I unloaded plates while he walked away....

punk ass trainers who wiegh 135 shoudl not be giving advice to 250lb dudes putting up 400+. to think I gave him props for putting up bodyweight.

bastards.

Idid legs on wed and i was using the smith machine..

Lately a few of the guys have started talking to me and i got a little distracted and didnt notice when someone.. as a joke ( well he thought it was) put more weight on both sides.. now my legs r killing me:P

Gyms r full of dummies

FUCK I HATE THAT !!!...

PEOPLE should mind there own business... speak when spoken to...

I mean if you ask for advice... sure...

I mean... people seem to want to do that all the time... I see scronnie little asswhipes do it weekly at my gym ... most of the time... its always the same dudes...

I heard a guy say that he wanted to throw a 50 lbs dumbell at him once... maybe that'll help clear things up...

People should NEVER give advice in the gym unless some asks.

My gym story on a low carb day of course this has to happen. I was doing bent over DB rows so alway put my weights back after I finsh. I went to put the 50 back and came back with the 55 and there was a woman trying to take over my bench with my water and what not still there. I was like ummm I have one set left. She was like oh well can we share. Me no you can wait. She had under 10lb DBs that she was going to bench with LMAO

That's always the way it goes -- you never get unsolicited advice from someone who looks like they workout. It's always someone who spends more time reading about lifting than actually doing it :)

lol,, thats funny i had a incounter with a gym mongol on weds. i was doing my bench. anyway this dude asks if he could have a shot, so me being a nice guy and in a good mood, i said " yeah shure buddy " then watched him do it. then he says something like. " dam you trying to kill yourself here ? " i was like WTF you talking about thats just 70kg ? then hes like alreight. and moves the peg up like 3 weights. and his face is going bright red. looks like hes about to have a heart attack. so i say" you ok ?". he stops and trys again doing like 4 or something but only bringing it back like half way. so i then say " if you bring it further back youl get more outa it " then he replys by saying na i cant .i have a sore shoulder !" at this point i start laughing .
BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE A BAD SHOULDER THEN YOU DONT TRY AND LIFT AS HEAVEY AS YOU CAN. fucking retard . he should be lifting lighter trying to bring his strength back up. but hey i just left him to it. fucking stupid whore

Why do you have to be so mean to me all the time!!

Is that a raw number, or shirted? Because if it's raw, then you are right. But if it's shirted, then he probably outlifts you raw.

i hate when people do biceps multiple days in a row, doing hammer curls with the whole body...

i'm not about to try and give him advice about getting more out of it if you can actually lift the weight properly, he'll learn one day...

edit: it's not like he's doing a bicep exercise multiple days in a row, dudes doing 5-6 bicep excercizes 2-3 days in a row, and i've yet to see him work lower body once.

Great thread.
I have been training for 15 years and have come across all of the dumb ass people you could imagine but last month They had about a 35 year old man that was loaded on speed and trying to train. He had his string tank top and curling 60lbs on the staright bar. In mid set he yells out that he is a bad mother #%$ er, then when he finished the set he yells out that he loves Jesus!!
Now that is Dumbass!

275 for 16 reps aint sheet you weak azz bitch! I can curl 275 for one Kabilllionzillion times and then proceed to slap you around a bit for a cool down.

thats right baby! sorry the weights are down.... school has been keeping my busy, but in the words of the eternal ahnold "i'll be back"

powerlifters and commercial gyms jsut dont mix..sooner or later punk ass bodybuilders become jealous that someone can lift more than them and right away the animosity starts..why do you use those funny brds whats with the chain/bands etc..

im tired of it and i usually give someone a smartass answer when ever they ask me why im doing that

dude I expect a better dis from you than that...

I may only be 150 lbs, but I've got diff. circumstances than most, as in I don't naturally weigh this little and I'm staying here for long :D. But I bet I could take my ass to the gym and tell most fuckin' idiots there, what they're doing wrong. I don't care if that guy has 10 degrees in Kinesiology, book knowledge on stuff like this is kinda useless w/ out actually lifting and practicing what you preach. I mean I bench with my legs off to the side for the reason of keeping myself stable, and wouldn't be able to focus on the lift if my legs were straight becuase i'd be so unstable. It's all about trial and error. Next time tell that faggot to hop on there and "school" you w/ all his knowledge at let him do one rep with 275.

This is why I only ask people I know to spot me.

One time I had a guy tell me "you know if you bounced that off the bottom you could bench more" So I responded "Yeah then I'd have a pussy as small chest like you too"

Cheers,
Scotsman

I hate the unsolicited bullshit advice! Especially when the guy is a twig!

I had this kid come up one time after I just finished racking 560 in the squat cage and he says to me, "You really shouldn't go so deep on your squats, you can blow out your knee!" I turned to this absolute marvel of modern male fitness and kindly said, "Listen stick figure! Don't you have an aerobics class to attend?" Not the greatest comeback but I later found out he was the gym owners son. Funniest part of it was that the owner busted up laughing right in his sons face when he went to tell daddy!

Me, I don't mind. Sure, sometimes the trailer or other people give me advice to lift. I just smile and say thanks.

there is this doofy dude at my gym that at least one a week he'll watch our group training and want to jump in on some of our sets. on monday we were doing incline dumbell presses. after i did my set of 15 he was bragging on how he does 20 more lbs than i do but for 10 reps. so he grabbes the 100lb dumbells, gets help getting them up for his first rep, then wears out his spotter by screaming out 6 heavily forced reps. after he's done he says to me "that was pretty good huh" and i said "definately bro, i think your spotters biceps are pumped as hell right now." this guy spends about 3-5 hrs at the gym and trains for maybe one of them. he mainly walks around talking on the phone and goes tanning after a while. he's also the only person who i ever seen do incline dumbell curls and use the momentum from the opposite dumbell dropping to swing up the next hand. and all the screaming and yelling out when doing shitty ass reps makes me just shake my head and wonder how could someone possibly think that they have a hint of intelligence.

i've given advice a couple of times
one time after I spotted a guy who had the bar ACCELERATING into his chest to get momentum going up.. I hurt just watching him, i just said "why not pause before you hit the chest". he said it was the only way and he was used to it. I nodded politely and left.

another time a guy was using a false grip (thumb underneath) on incline bench, I just asked "how come you're using that grip, isn't it a little riskier?" Then I listened when he said a "champion bodybuilder told him to do it that way", nodded politely and left.

i suggest, or ask why, not preach.

I love those guys lol..I seem to be in somewhat of a battle with the trainers at my gym..there are 2 young kids that want to get bigger/stronger they seem to always be maxing on bench..anyway i hadnt seen them in a few weeks then i see the one kid who tells me hes been working with the trainer and he got him to bench 275 (previous max 225) and that in 2 weeks he would be hitting 315..i said whoa lemme know how that goes cuz il sign up for a few sessions if i can add 40# to my bench in a few weeks..so i see him at the gym the next day and he asked me to spt him on the bench..he wanted to work up to 275 again..i said ok no problem..needless to say he horribly missed 235..the bar nearly fell on his throat..hmmmm???? why is it that he benched 275 with Mr Trainer and yet cant get 235..could it be the trainer has his hands all over the bar pulling it up??? these guys never learn

Im pretty sure he was begging for a kicj in the crotch.

We had a few noisy kids in the other day at the gym with the usual imaginary lat syndrome. The guy I was working with said "let's go have some fun". So he went over and asked them to give him a hand getting his DBs up for some incline pressing. It took them two on each DB to lift them for him. It was funny to see them staggering with one one each end of the DB while he's egging them on with "come on lads, it's not heavy. pass them up, I'm starting to cool off".

You people are mean. Let the people dream and pretend all they want. Unless they get in the way.
