Several persons are under arrest after customs officials at Oslo's main airport seized a record nine kilos of pure anabole steroids in powder form, plus 10,000 tablets sent from China. The seizure is the first of its kind in Norway.
The steroid powder was shipped in these plastic bags.

Chemists at the customs service's lab determined the powder to be the male hormone testosterone in highly concentrated form. Its purity was classified at 95 percent.

The testosterone in powder form was enough to make 90,000 doses of illegal steroids. It's the first time Norwegian authorities have seized such drugs, with earlier seizures coming entirely in the form of ready-made pills or capsules.

Police are convinced that those who ordered the dope shipments planned to thin out the powder to make pills or capsules in Norway, a process that would have generated a huge economic gain and which makes the seizure the biggest in Norwegian history.

The dope came in several shipments beginning in May, addressed to both a company and individuals in the small town of Elnesvågen, north of Molde, and in Nord-Trøndelag. Police in Sunnmøre made several arrests on Tuesday in a coordinated action against those listed as the would-be recipients of the dope.

The arrests resulted in additional seizures, and more are planned. Two of the men now in custody claimed the dope was intended for their personal use.

The sheer quantities involved lead police to think otherwise. It's also long been rumoured that local weightlifting groups in nearby Romsdal provide a market for the steroids, and that abusers are as young as 15.

Doping defendants held in custody
One of the men arrested earlier this week in connection with Norway's biggest dope smuggling case ever was ordered held in remand for at least a week on Thursday.

Prosecutors asked for a week in custody because they feared evidence tampering if the defendant was released.

Three men were arrested in the small town of Elnesvågen after customs officials seized nine kilos of 95-percent pure testosterone in powder form at Oslo's main airport. It's believed the powder was destined for production of illegal steroids.

They also seized a shipment of 34,000 tablets, sent from China and addressed to individuals in Elnesvågen. Another 35 ecstasy tablets and 50 grams of cocaine were found at the home of one of those arrested.

One of the men was released while another is subject to a remand hearing on Friday.

MILAN, July 16 (Reuters) - Italian police have busted an international ring that they believe illegally supplied steroids to U.S. soldiers in Iraq and people in a dozen different countries.

Two people have been arrested and a "significant" amount of performance-enhancing steroids and other drugs was seized, police in the northern Italian city of Trieste said in a statement on Saturday. Another eight people are being investigated.

The police said they had noticed strange movements at the post office, with hundreds of packages being sent to U.S. soldiers in Iraq and many of them being returned for reasons of "military security".

They uncovered a ring based in Trieste that allegedly sold steroids like nandrolone via the Internet, sending them to buyers across Europe, Australia, the United States and Canada.

the military only tests for recreational drugs. like weed, coke, etc... they only test for steroids if it is suspected and even then it depends on how far they want to push it. the cost is a great one and they look like idiots if it comes back negative as it did with me 2 times. i had jealous friends that decided it would be funny to turn me in to the navy so the navy decided to give me a piss test which after they tested it for the regular stuff and it was negative they sent it to UCLA to test for juice. both times came back negative. of coourse i can not confirm or deny if the test was correct. but that my story and im sticking to it.

angel_girl: I just got back from a 14 month tour in Iraq as a combat infantryman in the US Army and I have to answer no to your question. Not only does the military NOT test for steroids (pot and others like coke to the best of my understanding) but not one person in my 170 person company was tested for drugs (at least that I knew of anyway, meaning they didn't hold regular whiz quizes). Not only that but in certain circles, the infantry being one of them, as long as you take care of yourself physically, most people don't ask what you are doing. If you get a guy who increases the overall PT test score for the company, why on earth would you bust his chops because he's fit. hehe, kinda like don't ask don't tell...

I'm not sure why guys in Iraq would even think of juicing. WAY too unclean in my book. I was two weeks into a cycle when I was deployed and I put the brakes on everything. You cannot imagine how nasty dirty that place is.

Take care. 11b

true it does cost them a lot of money to test people..although i know several people who were charged in iraq for using coke....i doubt that they looked for any thing else..thank you for your input

What countrys allow people to buy steriods legally? I know there are some countrys like that. Wouldnt it make most sense for big operations to be based in countrys where it is legal, that way the law there could care less if they are dealing?
