i am just curious about this. because now a days u can find pics of current bbers while they are bulking, but i have never seen any pics of arnold or any of these older bbers while they were bulking. every pic you see of them, they are ripped and look ready for a comp. these guys had to bulk right? or did they really stay lean all the time?

anyway i would be interested in any info on this topic

bro, they dropped their weight when they werent competing. they never bulked, they go on cycles when they competing and looked pretty normal when they were off season.

Yeah, you can't find any pictures because there aren't any. These guys were lean all year round - obviously not contest ready year round, but close to it. Arnold even claims in his book that he would gain muscle mass when preparing for a contest. Besides Lee Priest, I think most of the pictures you've seen of off-seasons bb's look like their fat, but really they're just bloated and holding a lot of water, due to the drugs. None of them really get ridiculously fat (except of course Priest).

It would be the exact opposite bro...during the offseason most bodybuilders shoot up in weight anywhere from 20-50lbs depending on the bodybuilding. I have seen some gain even more weight offseason. It is impossible to acheive the freakiness of Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Guntler Shriemp(sp) and all these guys without alternating between bulking and cutting to build a solid foundation. It is the fact that we know so much more about the cycles and the gear we use today also. WE can manipulate compounds and esters to get a synergistic effect moreso today. Also with the amount of knowledge available today, you can administer gear safely and effectively if you seek the knowledge available by doing the research.

The game of gear has changed alot from the day of the guys doing straight D-Bol cycles and Test...LOL!! It is a science moreso behind it now. You will even see more freaks when the Myostatin Inhibitor is finished testing and it hits the black market...It will be guys that will make the Pros of today look small in comparison...IT is only the beginning of the evolution of humanity through science and genetics...Hopefully we will be around for the ride..

read arnolds book, I lot of them shrank in the offseason and bulked upto the comp are reverse of todays freaks

Exactly, bro i think they felt a lot more confortable when they were lighter. I know i am. when i bulk everything gets harder

While it is true that some didn't bulk, most of them did. I've seen pics of Arnold bulking and he looks bloated and fat, just like today's pros.
