Are pressing movements necessary for buliding a big chest?

Hi guys,

Last year I have had huge problems with my bicep tendon in my front delts... I have been to a muscle specialist and he fixed it, so I can move it normally now, however when training chest I still can not so pressing motions (ie bench press). It feels like after about 3 reps (even on very light weight) my front delts burn and it's quite painful, not sure if there is some deep muscle
tissue damage or not... I also feel like my shoulders are just taking over and not letting me push with my chest, so i have to concentrate and squeexe my chest as hard as possible just to get anything out of the movement.

But i found the other day that i can still do dips and DB flyes. So my question is, can i build a bigger chest just by doing chest flyes and dips?

Cheers guys,

Connor

Keep in mind that different exercises do different things. If you can do your flies on flat, incline and decline you can make well rounded progress still. Your pecs attach at your collar bones(incline), sternum(flat), and ribs(decline). So try to find movements to work all those angles without stressing your injury as little as possible. But pretty much no matter what, it's near impossible to work chest without involving the biceps unless you have magically insane concentration skills.

I'd suggest buying a book like Strength Training Anatomy to help you find movements that least use your damaged muscle while still working what you want.

Also maybe look into peptides or gh to speed the recovery along.

Re-injuring an injury that's not fully healed is one of the shittiest things in the world because it hinders the progress you could be making had you just left it alone until completely healed, so be really careful.

I personally feel incline benches are a requirement for a big chest. Have you tried lowering the weight to just a bar and seeing if a few reps causes the front delt pain?

Have to agree.. see so many guys with poorly developed upper chests and it look wrong..

Have you tried incline dumbells

I know a guy that only does pushups. Lots of reps EOD sometimes daily. His chest is INSANLEY large. Esp compared to the rest of his body
