What level of football do you play (high school, college, flag football, )....thats not so important, but I am just curious.
In football, explosion is king, however, in my opinion, you shouldn't train SOLEY for explosion at the expense of strength. This is why I am a huge fan of the olympic lifts in a routine.
I feel that cleans (only if done correctly), snatches (only if done correctly), full, narrow to moderate stance squats, and an upper-body press (typically bench because that is what most athletes are tested on, but the bench is by no means the be all and end all of upper body training) would be a nice focus in the weightroom, then things like plyo, sprinting, box jumps, agility drills, as well as crosstraining with raquet ball, tennis, pick-up basketball or soccer because those are sports that require great athleticism and you're typically playing with and against much smaller and faster athletes and it keeps you from losing quickness and general athleticism as you get bigger and stronger.
