Anyone have 4 gigs installed in 32 bit XP/Vista?

I upgraded to 4 in XP sp3 and of course due to hardware MMIO address space allocations I'm left with about 3.4 of usable physical RAM for OS applications. I think it's still better than just 2 gigs, although some say 2 is the "sweet spot" for a 32 bit OS.

Any opinions on which is better (2 or 4)? I did notice 4 being faster in general. Some have said that 2 is more stable though, and anything more yields negligible gains.

Fuck. Yeah. No 64-bit driver bullshit issues here.

Yeah it'll be at least another year before most of that is ironed out. Hopefully Windows 7 has the 64/32 bit combo like they do with Vista so we can dual boot with the future in mind.

The extra is wasted if you don't use it. There aren't many occasions I need more than 2GB at work but with the cost being so low there is no reason not to go with 4GB.

You can use more than 2GB if you put two quarters in the slot instead of one when you start-up the Windoze game.

Or you can buy a real computer with a real operating system.

:) :) :)

Like Linux...oowwww.

Tell that to a chick.

You could tell her you can take her to Vegas for a week with the money you saved by not buying Windows, MS Office and Photoshop.

I run 8gb with XP 64 at home. At work 11gb on XP 64. We'll be upgrading to 8-core systems with 16gb of RAM soon here at work too.

Dude, 64 bit driver issues? Hardly anymore. If you would have asked me 3 years ago what I thought of XP 64 I would have said DONT DO IT.

Driver support is excellent anymore.

And yes, I believe 4gb is better than 2gb for 32 bit windows. It's not really wasted per say. It gets kind of complicated addressing that remaining memory. You can flip the /4gb switch - google it.

IT's a waste not having 4gb of memory. It's dirt cheap anymore! You can pick it up some places for like 20 bucks after rebate, or 35 with free shipping no rebate.
