i've had shoulder problems b4 and just recently my left rotator cuff has been acting up and i have a strongman competion coming up. I was wondering if cortisone helps out w/this or what does it actually do. and it's not illegal for contests is it? my doc would give it to me. thanks

the doc that gave me mine didn't hurt much, but be careful it fools the receptors making you prone to more extensive injury to that same area..

RADAR

king-79 take some dmso gel that is what it was orignally pescribed for.
I have given it to strong man competors and nothing works better.
It was used in the harness racing industrey for years.
It has only been used as a transdermal drug carrier as of lately.
Give it a try u will be quite suprised.

where can i get this at?

I just had a cort inj just about 2 weeks ago. The doc said that it had basically anti-inflam properties, and that if the pain was coming from an inflammed bursa sack it should stop hurting. but not much happened cause its probably my rotator cuff, so could be looking at a little orthoscopic surj. I am thinking that a little deca injected directly into the joint might help more! Hah Hah If not then fuck this summer see you guys at the beach next year.

damn...sorry bout your luck bro, i hope mine is nothing real serious...i'm gonna try that dmso stuff maybe and just stretch it real good but it seems like it just always keeps coming back. ill ask the doc bout cortizone shot if its still bad by week b4 competition. thanks

shit man 1:15 in the am and sharing a can of chicken with my dog while checking the EF boards, mastercard can't buy everything, :) I just gooped up some dmso that i had left over when I tried it with fina. So looks like I will have everybody looking at me tomorow morning saying"whats that garlic smell?"

Should I just leave it on over night for joint pains, or wipe it off, or what?

does this stuff help in the way that tiger balm does or is it different?

Worked for me

I got an injection for carpel-tunnel syndrome, worked like a charm. However, it just covers up the problem, doesn't fix it. I would get that rotator cufff properly healed. Such injuries are a bad time.

If you have a problem it will only mask it yes it works and you will feel less pain but you will still have the injury and maybe worse after it wears away

I have had multiple cortisone injections in the shoulder. Cortisone is a strong anti-inflammatory so if your problem is caused because of inflammation, then the cortisone will help. If this is the case you will feel immediate relief (within 5 minutes or so). If the cortisone has little effect then you most likely have other problems within the rotator area (ie a tear) in which surgery may be required to fix it. The only sure way to know is have an MRI done to get a full view of the area.

PS -I'd take the cortisone injection any day over surgery (considering I have had both).

I have found that my patients prefer it to be injected from the rear of the delt. If I inject it from the front, they complain from having more soreness. It will cover up the pain you are having which is why it is easier to injure yourself right after a shot. The best thing to do is rest the shoulder for about 7 days after your shot. If you happened to be diabetic, you need to monitor your blood sugar a little closer. Cortisone will elevate your blood sugar.

thanks, thats what i will do if it is still hurting a week prior. i have a week to feel it out and see.

Musta missed it.

I don't see the point of cortisone injections. Why mask the pain for a few days and risk injuring yourself worse?

My arthritic knee is getting worse by the day. Tried everything -- ART, accupuncture, ultrasound, herbs, lotions, potions ...even magnets. (Just to show you how desperate I am). Fuck it, tommorrow I'm looking into getting surgery and getting it over with. The sooner the better. I can't live like this.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the obvious:

Cortisone is catabolic.

Yup, he's right. There is a famous picture of a weightlifter taking catabolic steroids and his elbow is bent the wrong way. They break down the muscle, say in the neck or back. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNever take this stuff unless you really need it. Dont take unless, IMO, you cant walk.

What about these type of injection for a herniated disk...anybody have an idea about that type of use. It may be my only choice before surgery

Youn guys are way to fucking paranoid. Yes cortisone is catabolic, but having 1-2 injections a year is not goiung to hurt a thing! It will definately be of benefit to you if you follow the Drs. orders and rest the injured joint. Most people, myself included will not inject a patient unless it is absolutely warrented and all other possibilites have failed. I have had shoulders, knees, and my back for a herniated disc injected and I am fine. Usually we only use 1cc of 40mg/ml of depo medrol for the shot. This is no where near a dose that could harm you.
