Anyone ever trained to do a one armed chin up?

How did you train for it?

I can do one from just beyond perpendicular but can't do a full arm one yet. Nearly though. Just another few weeks of practice i think and i'll be there. Although the inevitable tendonitis is holding up my progress a bit. Feels like my bicep away from the bone at times so need to rest for a bit to allow it to repair.

this sounds intense, haha i'm gonna try this next back day

Just make sure you don't jump into it without knowing what it would feel like first and be sure not to let the shoulders go loose. Otherwise you'll be needed surgery on your shoulder/arm. My elbows are sore after trying it today.

This site is good for learning but it can take a long time. You need to be able to do at least 20 normal pull ups before trying with one arm i think.

a buddy of mine back in pittsburgh. . .he was a former city firefighter. . .he "trained for it" by losing one-half of his other arm in a fire-fighting accident. . .

on a side note, he was missing half of one-arm yet he stilled pulled mad ass. . .any guy out there that "can't get laid" or "can't find someone to have serious relationship with" ain't tryin' hard enuff imho. . .

Yes. I did one from a fully hanging position and did not jerk or use my other arm for assistance. I pulled a muslce in my ribcage though that still bothers me several years later.

At my peak I could do 4 straight minutes of pull ups (either grip) I think it was close to 150 total. I was at 240 lbs at the time. I could never even dream of trying the one armed even then.

Well I could never do 4 straight minutes of pullups. Most I could ever do was 20. I always did them strict. They're harder to do the more you weigh I've noticed.

I sucked at them. When I first started playing rugby I could only do like 12 and they were jerky. I was forced to do them all the friggin time. I haven't done them since my shoulder injury, i don't see myself trying pull ups any time in the near future.

kind of strange.. I never actually trained for it.. I just realized after years of working out.. I could do them. Havnt tried in a while.. but I was kind of shocked when I managed to get a few.

That's damn good strength then. I suppose it's basically the equivalent of doing pull ups with twice your bodyweight but maybe with a slightly more difficult technique/more balance needed too.

I'll be there within a couple of weeks. I can do one...just not completely full arm. I want to be able to do five full arms and then i'll be happy.

Onto planche push-ups human flags then!

yeah, trained for it once upon a time but never got there. i experimented with all sorts of chin up styles, pulling towards teh ribcage, then collarbone, then making collarbone touch one or the other hand etc. i never got to the stage where i actually did it though - id break perpendicular but couldnt quite get up after that

sucked :(

Just seems like a set up for injury.

BUT I'm saying this because I'm now paranoid after my injury haha.

How did you break your collar bone bro? I have a video of my friend on my dirt bike at the dunes high siding my bike and busting his collar bone.

And what grip is everyone using when trying a one arm pull up? I think will palms facing in would be doable, the palms out seems nearly impossible but i'm sure it can be done (just not by me).

150 full extended pullups in 4 mins @ 240lbs??? I call BS

that's close to world record timing and those dudes are skinny as hell (no offense)

lol that was guestimation. I guarantee is was well over 100, it was hard to count under that kind of stress. Basically I HAD to finish each pull up within 2 seconds (w/ someone else counting "1-1000, 2-1000". Not literally every single one fit the mold though. However, it was a twat-load of them.

Not claiming that I'm jacked or anything, just that I had to go through some shitty conditioning for a while.

lot easier to eek out 100 than 200, just sayin

still though, at 120 or whatever in four min., at that pace you would be @ 240 in 8 minutes and 1800 in an hour. lol

Stephen Hyland (GBR)

812 in one hr

Matthew Bogdanowicz (USA)

46 in one minute

so say i did 100 in 4 minutes, his pace was nearly twice as fast as mine. + He had perfect/near perfect form. Which I didn't. Mine was just acceptable, far cry from perfection.

Yeah I read about that guy awhile ago, that's where I actually got the B.S. from. Cus your first post said you did 150 in 4min and a world recorder holder is doing 184 in 4 min.... just seemed odd
