I think youre getting me and the other 'oak' mixed up. haha

it doesn't matter which Oak I'm talking to, the question is still a valid one. Cops go to school, the get certified by the state so if they get hired by an agency, the agency will then "carry" their license. Most do "reserve" work for no pay to keep their certification and work history current, almost ALL do that. Seems you haven't.
At some point, and I ask the question again, Do you STILL have a certification? I think your in for a rude awakening. Unless your going to work for a podunk place that pays minimum wage to rejects form other departments ( and there are many of those), you realy don't have much of a chance. The libiliaty to the city is a big one, law suits are their biggest fear, they will screen for cocain, opiates and pot. The polygrapher will ask you, "Have you ever done ANY illegal substances", then qualify them down to the last time you used. If you used within the last few years, you'll be toast. IMO...
I have been a licensed PI and worked closely with several Sherif's departments and city agencies, unless you have stellar refs from another agency and you just took another job out of law enforcement for $$ or a personal reason, and pass the polygraph, you don't really have much of a chance. Not in the real worlld my friend, at least not here in Texas I should have said....

Let me explain this statement. Here where I live, podunk town TX, we don't have much city revenue, we need jst about anybody that we can get to come work here. The cops make minumum wage up to sargent, they get cops that can't work anywhere else because of problems where they came from or they are just starting out. Due to needing warm bodies, we have a very "lax" requirement for working here. They call the last place/es they worked if any and if they didn't do amything illegal, they're hired. Places like this are all over, that is one place that you may find it that you can get hired w/ the past history that you have. They just don't have the money necessary to do the screenings and there isn't other cops breaking the door down to work here. OK? that is what I meant. It had nothing to do with you personally...

it's a shame that weed is so criminalized
if you pass a folicle/piss test, who gives a fuck if you've smoked it before?
i just don't get the big deal

does the military have such stringent requirements for being an mp?
that'd be another route if he got denied for a public pd department.
join the army, be an mp for 4 yrs, then come out and land a job

Not the same in Canada man!
You do not have to go to school to be a cop. It is better if you do but you still have a shot if you have not gone to school for it.
They'll send you to OPC in Aylmer Ontario. I have a friend who use to be the lead defensive tactics instructor at OPC he is also former #1 DT guy at Peel Region PD (Staff Sergeant)

maybe I missed that oak is from Canada. Is he? If he is, then disreguard everything I said. I have no idea how it's handled up there. My experience is TX only, all cops to get a certification have to go to a "cop school". Most have at least a 2 year degree, if they want to get on with a major agency, 4 years of criminal justice w/ degree is the minimum to expect to get an interview. If you ever did anything but try pot in HS your not going to get a second interview, except at the tiny police forces like I described in my prior post....

sorry to say Borris but I think The Ohio State university will not have a chance against LSU.

I just hope it is a good game

I hear you there. We don't have any "tiny" forces per se. Not like the USA anyway. Oak is from Ontario Canada. Here if they like you they send you to Ontario Police College (OPC) sure it is better if you have a 4 year degree but not 100% necessary.

In the city I live in, you need a 2 year degree to hand out parking tickets...and that is NOT a cop in any way shape or form...LOL it is a Bi-Law officer...nothing even connected to the police force.

In reality, if oak does not have a degree, he will not have an easy time becoming a copper.
