I've seen this very situation happen before. My frined texted me a msg. "You wanna fight some guy with me tonight?"

I was like " hell yeah, I'll kick his ass"

Then I thought about it again and told my friend to just let it be. The guy was calling my friend to fight because my friend is the EX of this guys current girlfriend.

We could have hopped in the car right there, went out and beat his ass and come back. But, instead I told him to tell the guy to get real and leave him alone. Nothing ever happened, No fight, no overnight stay in "da clink".

This guy is obviously just a stupid asshole trying to prove his primitiva cavemanliness to his newfound skank of a girl. Let him be and it should go away. If he insists on harrassing you then call the police and tell them you have been repeatedly harrassed by this guy and that he needs a talking to. Let them deal with it.

TELL THE COPS. for fuck sake tell the damn cops. the earlier posters were right, they probably won't do anything. BUT: if you do run into this guy and you cheapshot/choke/stab/shoot this guy and ruin his shit, at least the cops will have it on record that HE was the one threatening YOU when they arrest you and look into your case. This will probly get you off on self-defense, instead of you likely doing time otherwise
