abs and benchpress

A guy who trains at my gym told me that having strong abs harms your bench. I think its b.s. tell me the truth

i'm curious to know why he thinks it hurts your bench, cause it doesn't.having strong abs will help you greatly in the squat and deadlift but don't really help or hurt your bench

The only way i can see abs relating to the bench press would be if they were freshly trained. If the abs are extremely tight, and you normally put a good arch in your back while benching, the abs will be too tight to arch your back as far as usual.

If that were the case, you may not be able to squeeze out a few more reps, but your form will probably be better anyway, and it will work your chest more effectively.

I feel that I bench better when my abs are stronger. Besides they are the main stabilizer of you torso. Without them you couldn't bench at all.
