Watching the video helps grasp the (good) points he makes. I myself feel that after 5 years of college and a Bachelor's degree later I set myself back a good long while; at least from a creative and especially financial standpoint. It all depends though what you're looking to do.

Actual knowledge gained from college is of little interest to many employers. What they want are people who can set goals, work well with people, operate within the parameters of an institution or entity. Completing college usually accomplishes all of that, hence the common blanket requirement many employers have for degrees in order to get a job.

I'll second that. Let's face it, a big chunk of what you learn in college will not be applicable to the job you end up taking. But it shows that you know how to learn...that you understand the process...so the employer can be reasonably confident in your ability to learn the skills you will be using for your job when they invest the time and money to train you.

For me, it did sort of help me because I do have respect for some of the teachers I had. I learned more from running retail stores. The value of teamwork,and being in charge of a large staff of people can be demanding. Having many bosses and how to deal with them as well. How to analyze business and the general experience of working in a bureaucracy. I learned quite a bit, but I was never really given any real opportunity based on what I did.
The best opportunities are the ones you create yourself. But that takes passion and hardwork.

Become an intern, or junior position and after work, learn the FUCK out of your trade. In 4 yours you'll have 1) experience 2) Know 5x what the others know. Everyone will want you.

If I could go back, i'd become an intern at William Morris instead of college. I already knwo everything about computers. By now, i'd be making millions with my two skills. A degree just took 4 years off my life learning useless shit.
