Protien consumed vs. acrually used....

Ok Im aware that AAS increases protein synthesis and therefor how well all those grams / day we consume are converted to muscle. On the same diet people to make more gains on AAS vs. natural....so where is all this protein going? Wasted?
Throw in someting like Tren and people seem to grow by breathing. Im on a light cycle (500-600mg Test Cyp / week, and 2 IU HGH / day) But grew like hell on 800mg / wk Test Cyp alone on the same diet.

Where is all this muscle building protein going?

It all boils down to several factors Age, BMR,fitness level ,diet, however ginger root has been known to help the body absorb more protein.

Some are hard gainers others are not so what applied to you may not apply to someone else.

i think it goes in your toilet.

my pal who has a bio degree told me there is only so much protein we can use at once

makes me think i should not just gorge on protein
but eat protein MORE OFTEN

but im sure youre doing that already, right?

Of course most of it is waste. How can you be expected for every pound of meat you eat to put on a pound of muscle? You absorb about 2% and most of that goes to maintenance.

That's why the protein in BIG BLAST is so amazing. It's far more absorbable so you get more to your muscles than you would from other protein sources. Of course we're still talking a percentage but when building muscle you need and want every advantage possible.

It is correct that the muscles can only use a very small amount of amino acids/day, but it isn't wasted.

Protein also forms enzymes, neurotransmitters, some hormones, DNA, RNA, immune system function such as the immunoglobulins (antibodies), structural proteins that make nails, skin, hair, the internal organs...

Amino acids can also be shuttled into the Kreb's cycle (anapleurotic reactions), one of the central pathways in metabolism, and amino acids can be converted into glucose via gluconeogenesis.

I don't know any technical aspects of it...but it seems like the more protein I eat, the more I grow! I also drink 2 gals of water a day for the kidneys.

The body doesn't waste anything.

Ah sounds like we have a fellow Bio major here:)
Correct, and im aware that the body must produce a human-protein amino acid profile before a strand of muscle fiber can be produced. The biological value (BV) is measured by this profile and how readily and efficiently it can be converted to human body tissue.

Egg albumin is the absolute highest. Yes, higher than whey. Does this mean that a bodybuilder will gain at least as much muscle using plain ol eggs in place of fancy powders???
Absolutely if you can stomach eggs all the time.

The body will convert those proteins to carbs (YEP, its true) via the gluconeogenic pathway. This is especially common when a complete amino profile is unavailable for the coding of new tissue.

But on gear...we become more efficient? Able to produce tissue without all the building blocks?

I am not sure if efficient is the correct term. It is thought that steroids increase muscle protein synthesis, but the exact molecular mechanism is not known.

It is not unknown for the body to make things when one or more factor is not present, for example macrocytic/megaloblastic/hypochromic anaemia results when there is not enough iron and B12 (which is which? my haematology isn't great).

I would think that some enzymes etc are manufactured without all the amino acids required, but whether or not they would function correctly is another issue.

i have personally had and seen people have really great results with much lower than recommended protein levels off cycle. on i would take alittle more but nothing crazy. i think it is exactly like radar said. i totally agree with that.

I must agree. The only logical conclusion we can draw from this is that most of us are eating way too much protein, more than is needed anyways. I stick to no more than about 30g per meal (or shake), though I take in no less than 150g per day, and am growing just fine:)
Small amounts of high-quality (full amino profile) protein is far more valuable than vast quantities of crappy low BV sources.
