Wrecked my bike today

You're gonna probably be a little uncomfortable on a sportbike at your size. Bikes such as the R1 you're speaking of are just as small as a 600. Modern bikes are weighing in under 400LBS and putting out tremendous horsepower. And in all honesty, unless you're looking for wheelie power, you don't need that 900 or 1000. New 600's are very quick, and aren't too far behind the liter bikes. You'll have a hard time keeping the front end on the ground with a 900r or R1. The power can be uncontrollable for riders not used to it. Be safe bro, these bikes will kick your ass if you don't respect them. They're nothing like those cruisers...

Galen, for your size I would recommend a couple of bikes. Of course you should base your decision on what type of riding you will actually perform.

If you are looking for a good city ride that rips out in the twisites on the weekends, then I would say the ZX9 would get the job done. I also happen to really like the Honda VFR800. That is a great all around bike. Fantastic in town, good in the twisties, good as an occasional tourer and of course, beautiful noise! It's a V-Four. I love that engine. It doesn't have a ton of hp, but it really doesn't matter. Freddie Spencer uses one at his race school in Las Vegas. I've seen him absolutely smoke R1's, GSXR's, etc. on that bike.

If you're looking strictly for performance, there's too options depending on what type of performance you're into:

Straightline speed: Suzukui Hayabusa hands down. It's a bigger bike that has lots of oomph.

Knee dragger: Suzuki 2001 GSXR1000 or 750. These bikes absolutely rail and their size isn't too small but they are extremely light weight.

Your best bet is to cruise around with some cash, act serious at some dealerships abd try to get some test rides. At the very minimum go and sit on a bunch of bikes to get an idea of how your body fits.

I've got a good friend of mine who recently purchased a 2001 Suzook GSXR1000, he's 6'1 210 and fits perfectly. The 750 is for intents and purposes the same physical size as the 1000.

Of course, if you really want to be the king, go buy a Ducati 996 or an Aprilia RSV1000R. The Aprilia is an absolutely beautiful machine and you should fit pretty well on it. The Ducati is a bit smaller so you may feel as though you're dwarfing it.

There are so many capable bikes right now it's insane, you really can't go wrong. Just remember that hp isn't everything, but practicality is.
