During the latest shark attack, some lifeguards were being bitched at for not running in the water to help a guy getting attacked by a shark.

What exactly could they do?? They are getting paid next to nothing and your telling them to take on a man eating shark?

I'm with you on this one bro...fuck that! I'll pull what's left of you out of the water!!!

Well...

...lifeguard or not, I don't think the general population would. That being said, I would have. Only because I did a summer long project on sharks. Reaserch shows that in an attack situation, the second or third person involved is RARELY(less than 10%) attacked as well.
Lifeguards should know the risk involved when they take the job.

I would. If I was a lifeguard, that's exactly my job. If it was me out there and a shark was chompin down on my quad then I'd want the same from the lifeguards. Somehow I feel that I'm in the minority though. I wonder what the regulations and procedures are for the lifeguards in the event of a shark attack? Are they supposed to take immediate action, as in the shark is still feeding on the victim....or are they supposed to wait out the attack and then boat over to the victim to see what's left? I would think that immediate action is required.

If you were a COP or FireFIghter would you go up to a burning car to get someone out if you could?
Hell yes, It happens all the time.
You accept this as part of the job regardless of your pay scale.

LifeGuards are getting paid to Sit in the Sun on a Beautiful beach all day chattin it up with near naked Women or Men with occasional histeria situations and Physical prowess involved.

It is sad that there were professionals apparently present and regardless of the fact that the resort has denied the charges, the guy had to swim in on his own with a mangled leg...:(

It's the same thing as when people Joined the Military Reserves to get free collage assistance, and then Cryed when they got thrown into a firefight in the Gulf...

Hmmmm, this might be a cultural thing, but here in Australia if there was a shark in the water and he was attacking someone then HELL YES I would get into the water to help. And any of my mates would do that, too. In fact I have been attacked by a shark, and got away with no more than a huge fright - when this happened a couple of my mates then even went after the shark with their boards and started whacking it. Albeit - it's not as crazy as it sounds, it was a young shark and quite small.

Most people that I know here would not hesitate to get into the water to help anyone fend off a shark, you'd help anyone you'd see fend off a vicious dog, too, wouldn't you?

I look at this way...If thats not someone I care for in the water being attacked it might be next time....Yes I believe I would if no one was helping him.

Safety in #s I guess, so yeah I would.

You gotta give props to the guy in Pensacola though. What a stiff, bad ass mother fucker he must be.

In case you didn't hear his nephew(around 9 years old) was attacked bt a 7 foot Bull shark, and had his arm bit off. So the uncle goes in the water, and wrestles the shark up on to the beach, a park ranger shoots it in the head, and they get the kids arm back, and it gets re-atatched at the hosptial!!!!!!!!

I never want that dude pissed at me!!

salami you are a bitch, i think if it wasnt one of those huge mofo sharks like you see in jaws, then id prolly go chizm and try save a mate, how pumped would you be after wrestling a shark, i dont think anything can top that.
