Their aim is to convince us that our men must buy us expensive jewlery in order to prove their love, respect and trustworthyness. Then we're supposed to bitch, whine, withhold sex, and generally make him feel like shit until he goes to the store and (probably) pays way too much since most retail jewelers are grossly overpriced. Then he ends up resenting us and we continue to think love is measured in carats.
BTW, Zales is probably THE most overpriced major chain in existence. I received a early Christmas present of a very nice pair of diamond earrings legitimately worth about $950 retail, but I found them for $449 on Overstock.com and pointed my bf there. Zales has inferior earrings on sale this season for $1099. Assholes.
