Will the rap/hip hop culture ever die?

I was watching 60 minutes and they did a story about how rap and hip hop music talks down about people who help the police solve murders calling them "snitches". What the fuck is wrong with these people? I'll never understand why black musicians sing about being a gangster thug. They're perpetuating a negative stereotype of black people. Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson need to start screaming about this. I believe in free speach but I just don't understand why these artists choose to perform this crap. It would be great if one of these rap guys like 50 Cent turned his back on the gangsta rap music and just started singing respectable music. Can you just imagine rappers singing lyrics about it being cool to graduate from college or something else that's wholesome?

it's more than just rap music bro
rap gets most of the heat...but violence in hollywood i think is worse
arnie blows up hundreds of people, the kids cheer and he gets elected governor
50 cent murders people on cd and gets slammed by the same people that cheered arnie in t2
double standard

uhm.. hip hop music really is NOT that white and black as you're making it sound..

it's not like every rap song is about being a thug and a gansta.. alot of rap is about facing adversity and succeeding against all odds to actually have a successful life, rap music actually gives alot of people hope.

you have to remember where alot of these people came from, they had a pretty shitty upbringing.

there are some wholesome rap/hip hop songs (hip hop is entirely different then rap and generally alot more posotive, destiny's child = hip hop)

though I can see where you're coming from, there are alot of negative fuck the police songs and all of this and that, but alot of times people like rap music because it just feels like they can relate. just my opinions. =/

that's some pedestal type of statement bro. I agree with you in some senses...but....
For one, as far as snitches go...it's an unwritten rule in the streets. If you snitch, you're going to get killed. That's why so many murders in ghetto go unsolved...You snitch, you die. The police aren't really there to protect them, so why should they? it's a fucked up system and environment....alot of things have to change for that mentality to change.

Most people in the ghetto hate the police to begin with....largely due to the most part that they don't really do enough to stop the violence and sometimes bust innocent people's balls.

2nd..alot of these rappers grew up in that environment or around it. 90% of them exaggerate and try to look like a hardass, but they either hung out people who did it or seen shit themselves.

3rd. Not all rap is like that.

4th. How are they going to rap about going to college and shit when you're living in the ghetto, it's very difficult to break out of that mold?Public education is a fuckin mess in the ghetto. There's no reinforcement and education is completely shunned upon. Obviously a person with the will and determination can overcome this but alot easier said than done when you're more worried about survival.

Like biggy said...you're either slinging crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot.

I hope so. Tired of having my ears and brain assaulted by that shit. People tend to roll down their windows and play it real loud, thinking they are cool or something.

I used to think only rednecks listened to country and i thought it would go away when bigotry did.

Bill Cosby talked about that gangster wanna be shit, and how it undermined everything good black Americans have accomplished. He was seriously angry and emotional about it. Nobody cared.
Blame the wiggers - they account for the most money spent on it.

You must not have seen T2. Arnie was ordered not to kill anyone by John Conners.
Few people try to emulate SciFi movie heros. Any fool can smoke a blunt and shoot a gun sideways. How many lives have been saved because Niggers can't hit center of mass at 6 feet? LOL.

And they extol this successful life by singing about their shoes, their fit, their whip, and their bling.

sounds like some censorship is being coerced here, eh? freedom of speech, just watch what you say.
