Why are there no canadian teams in the NFL?

he average CFL salary is $55,000 Canadian and the league minimum is $32,000.
The average NFL salary has been over $1million for several years now. The rookie league minimum is $225,000 and even practice squad guys get $4,000/week, only during the season of course.
I don't see how a Canuck team would pay those figures.

Canadian Football == American College Football.

Think of it as training camp for NFL players.

pretty much.

at least its a faster paced game, albeit w/ inferior players

Hahaha.

Canadian Football = American College Football?

Hahaha.

That's giving them too much.

Canadian Football == NFL Europe (at its worst)

Iam fortunate enough to live in Michigan where I get CBC, and I enjoy watching the CFL. Its not near the same product as the NFL but it satisfys the football itch when nothing else is on. It rocks having CBC for HNIC.

Back in the 80's the project was alive. The NFL came in Montreal and Toronto and played 2 pre-season games. But believe it or not, no one seemed interested. Neither the football fans nor the business community. That was back when the CFL was going through a bad era.

In fact, football never caught our attention. The World League lasted only a year, the CFL is going bankrupt in many cities and there's no real college football. And personally, american football is boring...

It would take the gross domestic product of canada to buy an NFL franchise. The Redskins sold for $800,000,000 and they're not even the No.1 market monster for the NFL. Next major franchise sale is going to hit the $1B. Mark and well canada just doesn't have that kind of money.

How about an Arena League Team or better yet a Fantasy Football Franchise?

Eh.

Arena League wouldn't be a hit. The World League failed (now known as NFL Europe), the CFL is once again becoming a failure. It's not about money, it's just that people don't like football over here.

I hope the NFL stays as powerhouse as it is now. After the Cubs win the world series, I wouldn't care if baseball was terminated due to lack of interest.

Basically, the only city in Canada that could possibly afford a NFL team would be Toronto (if they really wanted to). Toronto, however, already has professional hockey, basketball, and baseball teams, as well as lacross and other growing sports.

There would not be enough fanbase for football to generate enough money because Toronto, quite simply, has WAY too much variety. We got all these sports teams in conjunction with TONS of other shit to do here, so football would take a back seat to everything.

In the States, however, you have a lot of NFL teams in a lot of smaller cities that have jack shit to do, thus, football is the main attraction (so it's supported).
