we all know how much pins cost, and they don't kill that many guys with the needle for the cost to be of any significance.

I think it's because the Governor can still stay the execution all the way up to just after the sedative is added to the IV. It would piss the Governor off if he stayed the execution then the guy died of a staph infection.

LOL - actually I read in yesterday when I was trying to find evidence as to why swabbing with alcohol pre-injection is a waste of time and that's the first thing that came up.

Y'know, even if that ISN'T the real reason that sounds like such a good answer I'll totally buy it, that and Angel's:

A) Out of respect to the people watching, just because this person was inhumane does not mean we have all got to be that way

B) out of habit

C) possibly so as though when there is an autopsy done there is only the injected chemicle and no infection thus there can be no law suits from pissed off family members looking for a way to pay back to justice system for taking thier loved ones??
