Who's had pneumonia?

How long does it take to be able to breathe without it hurting and coughing up blood? I'm 3 days in on antibiotics and the fever has broken, but I obviously still feel like shit. The doc said it could take up to two months to regain full lung function, but at this point I'd be happy to stop coughing up mouthfuls of blood.

Fuck this. Fuck advair.

my wife had it several years ago...she looked like she was gonna die when it was at it's worst...her lungs still hurt once in a while...but, we're old so...

Puds wanted me to tell you "lol@your inferior immune system"

Yeah, I was waiting for that too. The doc said that since I use advair I'd be more likely to get it, so that's great. It's weird because I had this cold that kept trying to come on for the past week or so but I never really felt sick. I just figured it was something Q brought home from daycare. I woke up friday with my sheets and pillows soaked through with sweat and it hurt to breathe. Took a leak and started coughing and just kept coughing up mouthfuls of blood. Slept most of friday and most of yesterday. I feel bad for Q because it's so nice out and I can barely move. Her mom did take her for 2 whole hours yesterday, so yay for that.

fuck bro, feel better!!! i thought the boobtube had something negative to say about advair. like a recall or call this number if you've used it and died or no someone that has!!?!

people in general (not jnev), and those specifically with heart problems are more likely to die suddenly because they're stupid and don't fucking listen when you tell them, it's not a rescue med, so they take 26 puffs because its not doing anything for them right away (no shit sherlock, its not fast acting) and then all of a suddden, BAM!!!!!!! You get 42 megatons of beta agonist that lasts fucking forever making your heart dance like pick3 at cutters during mardi gras.

My friend was a glaxo rep for a while and he said advair was kind of slow to take off because it showed that there was a significantly higher amount of deaths in black people vs white people. He said the only things I'd even almost have to worry about were thrush if I didn't rinse or brush my teeth after using it, and that I'd have inflammation for a month or so if I stopped using it and only relied on my rescue inhaler. My doc agreed, so I went on it. I didn't know about the pneumonia thing until a couple of days ago. I've used it for almost 4 years now and haven't had any issues until now.

It goes without saying, but stay on top of that. If you even slightly think it's worsening or not improving, get right back into the doctor. Otherwise healthy people can let pneumonia get away from them and die.

Good luck -- get better.

get better, dude/

I think you are avoiding neighbors parents BUT, you do sound like shit <3

I've had "walking pneumonia" but I'm not sure that helps cause I was still able to hike the Grand Canyon with it...from what I read, pneumonia can kill old people pretty easily...you may want to rest in bed and take your antibiotics grandpa.

Had to be the superior prussian genetics, right?

I was diagnosed with it last week. It is aweful. Worst 11 days of my life!!
My whole body was hurting, still actually really sore today. However the coughing has slowed down and I can breath a bit better. Of course I woke up sick as a dog on Saturday, which I think is from the antibiotics that they gave to me :(

I still am having a hard time breathing today which would be like day 14 of this crap. And yes, my doctor told me it would be some time before my lungs are back to the way that they should be.

Get well soon Nev, and make sure you drink those fluids!! :D

Hey nev, which antibiotic did they give you?

If you've been on abx for a couple days and spiked a fever again, it sounds like it could be an atypical bug.

Doxycycline Hyclate 100mg. I'm right at 98 today but still feel crappy. Slept 13 hours last night, missed class. Doc said I shouldn't work through Sunday but I'm not sure if I should tonight. I really can't afford to miss any more work, but I know I can't afford to get worse and miss a ton of work and school.

If you keep getting fever spikes, I'd go go back and see about switching to moxifloxacin, or azithromycin + a couple days of Rocephin, then finish out the course with Ceftin.

I think it's tuberculosis, ya lunger!

Fuck this. Fuck advair.

Shoulda stuck with your albuterol, ngr.

You bought a fuckin scare tactic story from a guy that sells Advair for a living.

Ask any doc what using an albuterol inhaler multiple times a day for a long period of time will do to your lungs.

Not that I'd really be saving $$ from switching back since they made the fuggin albuterol more expensive. fml

yeah, which is fucking stupid...

Take an incredibly cheap to make med that saves lives and charge a fortune for it. Great idea.

The pharmacist said it went up because they made it cfc free so it wouldn't put monstrous holes in the ozone (as she rolled her eyes). It used to cost me $7. Now it's close to $50.

I just paid almost $60 for an albuterol inhaler. That was after insurance...I was like, WTF?!

Wanna buy it nev, I've only taken like maybe a couple dozen puffs off it. lol

I'm sure that's what the pharma press release claimed.... Unfortunately there's no generic.

Have you used a leukotriene inhibitor like singulair in addition to the advair? How bad is your asthma bro?

It gets worse when the seasons change or when the air quality is poor. We get some of the worst air in the country here during the winter, so I was always miserable from late Nov-early March. On advair I have little to no issues. I only use my albuterol maybe once every other month now, and it seems to be allergy triggered.

That's great to hear! This whole pna thing sucks though.

Oh great. The one I have expired 2 years ago. That's how often I've had to use it.

yeah...I had bronchitis a couple weeks ago. Went in doc checked me all out. Told me what he was gonna Rx me, and then I had my wife pick it up. She comes home, like..WTF did they give you that was almost $60.

I would've rather been all wheezy for a few extra days than waste $60 on that shit.

I got viral pneumonia years ago from the chickepox, I was almost 30, caught them from my son.

I was in the hospital for five days on I.V. antiviral meds. Honestly, I didn't feel "right" until about five months out. I was realy short of breath, had no endurance.

I wasn't coughing up blood, though, I was just drowning in my own lungs. Never really coughed, just felt like I had a truck parked on my chest when I lay flat.

Nev, man, shit's serious, you gotta give your body time to recuperate. This is not a cold. You're absolutely no good to your kid dead, remember that.

I had it when I was 15. Originally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a common cold. A few days later and lying in bed with a temp of 105 (no BS), and my family was like WTF, so we went to another doc. He said if I had waited another day, I probably would have died, because my lungs were so filled with fluid (jizz, of course).

about 2 years ago and the lung pain was the worst part. It took about 2 weeks to really feel better and about 4 weeks to hit the gym again.

Nice sick life

I am, but little things are keeping me in check. I have a class on the 3rd floor and I still have to stop after 2 floors. Body aches are gone, I can take deep breaths without them hurting, but actually moving taxes me. My appetite is screwed too. Between sweating so much out, the abx doing what they did to my intestines, and me just not being hungry due to inactivity, I've lost close to 20 lbs.

Going through this makes me want to die in my sleep instead of trying to fight off some illness. The worst part of the whole thing was I couldn't play, color, read, etc, to my daughter. I couldn't do anything for or with her and she felt so left out and sad. She kept saying I was hot and asked why my head was crying since I was sweating so much.

I've had it twice, 1 week intense pain and difficulty breathing. 1-2 more in slow recovery.
