Every single day.... I get more calories from wine than food. Seriously. I know the jokes are gonna fill this thread.... but I'm serious. I have never done a great job with eating. A cheese stick here, a spoon of PB there..... but only eat a real meal about once a week. I just don't feel like it. But I always have about a bottle of wine ever night. Bad.

Are you drunk right now?

what does it matter? if your ripped w/ tight abs & glutes- drink away!!

if your not- than stop... post your pics so we can give you better advice :)

you ever try skipping the wine?

Do u mean cut back(like only a glass or two) or skipping it? Damn, I would never fall asleep without wine. It's the only thing that makes my sleeping meds work, seriously.

I have honestly posted tons of pics but some of the girlz get mad when I do... so I have tried to cut back. I'm not SUPER ripped...... but not fat. I do 50 push-uups every morning and night, plus, I spend lots of time of the treadmill. I do squats and some other stuff. Not a body builder.... but I am in good shape. I was just thinking about actually damaging my body by all of the wine calories vs. food. Food is a BIG deal. I try to eat some tuna here and there....but besides that....I don't do a good job with my intake.

I recently read about some culture in Europe where the average person consumed 7 litres of wine per day. That's a lot of wine and a lot of alcohol.

My mother was raised in Italy( not italian but her father was stationed there). Wine was a normal thing in my house. Had a glass with dinner since i was about 14. Now, it's turned into a bottle before bed.

i should prolly worry more about eating more and worry less about drinking. A bottle of wine is only 500-600 calories(about).

I would be more concerned about the reason you feel the need to drink a bottle of wine nightly. :worried:

It seriously is from my sleeping disorder. I have been on meds for it since i was a young child but they all eventually stop working. The alcohol helps my meds get me to sleep between 2-4am instead of never.

maybe you'll have an easier time sleeping with a normal, balanced diet

My sittuation isn't that simple. I have a rare REM disorder and have had studies done on me since childhood. My activities and eating won't fix the sleep problem. But for the most part, ur idea is usually the correct answer.

What is your disorder?

I have RBD, insomnia and HSP='s im screwed.
Basically, it takes me 4ever to fall asleep. When i do get to sleep..my REM stages are disrupted mid-session. This sometimes causes the HSP. So, when i DO get to sleep, I get to look forward to HSP. Good tymes. benzos are usually the answer but they stop working.... since i have been on them almost my entire life.

Sorry to hear that...I suffer from insomnia but it's mostly because I can't let my mind rest. I'm always trying to solve some problem...

I know ppl like that. u have a hamster in ur head. I know some ppl with a whole pet-store up there. The harder they try to sleep, the more they think about, the more they can't sleep. The animalz just run around like crazy.

I do sleep well when I have a girlfriend....it's strange.

I'm glad you've managed to have a healthy child and hope you raise him to continue in good health.

I think he looks sad in your current avatar, like he's saying, "Mommy, please get some help! I need you to be around for a while." :(

darn. be careful with that. don't pull a heath ledger on us. :worried:

wish I could live on alcohol... I just get fat.... A bottle really ain't that bad. If you keep it like that. I'm the same way with at night. Brain does backflips and I'm just to energized to sleep. Few drinks and I'm passed out. I've cut my drnking though and switched to weed. Couple hits around 9pm out by 10!!! Lolol

she could just not be a big eater, but if she sets out to eat very little during the day to save room for booze cals at night, thats probably not good.

i'm not judging you myway, i do the exact same thing, but i only let myself do that on the weekends, where almost every single calorie comes from booze, haha.

i have no problem getting to sleep though so I cant relate

What if you set out to drink one or two protein drinks per day, buy them premixed if you have to just so you can open the fridge and down them. Just try and find one that worth drinking and loaded with an abundance of unnecessary sugars.

Have you ever considered seeing a psychotherapist, specifically a reputable one who's trained in hypnotherapy? Not being able to sleep and dream is right up there with not being able to breath or drink water. Obviously you've exhausted everything conventional medicine has to offer, why not try something slightly less conventional?

BTW, while the wine sort of helps, non-organic wine is actually loaded with fluoride metabolites, which can interfere with the pineal gland's melatonin production. Not to mention the fact that alcohol actually interferes with the body's ability to achieve delta sleep, the truly deep, restorative sleep.

Think about the therapist, seriously. What have you got to lose?

+1

an entire bottle of wine before bed every night!! borderline alcoholic.

im going to ask you this seriously.....have you tried smoking weed. Itll put you to sleep just like wine will without all the extra calories, plus will make you hungry so you can actually get quality calories instead of the wine

Sure, I have smoked my fair share of weed.... never really been my drug of choice. It makes feel really uncomfortable...maybe too mellow.
Plus, my cop hubby would get pissed if I walk around the house smokin' a blunt, go figure!

people do not relize that a glass of wine is only 3-4 oz becuase the glass is small and should only be filled up to the half way point.
I Had a exgirlfriend that said she only drank a few glasses a night. Well her glasses were doubled filled and big glasses on top of that.
So a 24 oz bottle of wine is the same as drinking 6-8 beers. Or 6-8 shots of hard proof alkie.
Now dont get me wrong I am not saying do not drink becuase it is bad , I am only suggesting you ight cut it in half just to help prevent negative health effects.

Maybe drink 3 glasses then fuck your husband for 3-4 sessions untill your so tired you fall asleep or have sex till you passout

when i do sleep, i wake up groggy as hell

not everyone reacts the same to any particular drug

I hope you are not breastfeeding.....

O-no. Ididn't drink when I was breastfeeding. The only thing I took for sleep while bf was benadryl per my dr. ='s I almost never went to sleep. I would be awake(but tired) for about 3 days straight then finally fall asleep for about 6 hours or so. It was hell when I couldn't take any sleeping meds. I would literally start crying just because I was cranky and tired. It was like I was going crazy or something.
I had to stop bf because the baby wasn't gaining enough weight. Supply was fine but the dr. said my body wasn't adding enough fat to the supply. He said I was making "skim milk",lol. At first, we started giving him formula about 3 times a day and continued bf. He finally started to maintain his weight. So the dr. said to go to all formula. Now, he's doing fine. Thanx for ur concern.
For everyone about to give me a TMI reply, screw off, she asked and I wanted to answer. :)

U are SOOO correct. I know several of them. My hubby always says he would feel guilty if he smoked pot because he has arrested people for it. He says he wouldn't feel right breaking a law and expecting other ppl to not do the same. We have actually had several conversations about the subject because it was his' favorite drug before he was a cop.
Still, he's really easy on the pot smokers. He says he never arrests people if that's the only reason he gets called to a house. Example: If someone called from an apartment building saying the ppl living accross the hall were getting high---he would mostly likely just knock on the door and tell them to stop whatever they are doing because ppl were complaining. If he got 3 more calls that night about the same thing, then he would prolly arrest somebody.
He ALWAYS arrests them if they are driving around, stoned, with weed in the car. I agree with him about this because stoned people cause car wrecks.

I have heard of such a thing. Don't think it applies to me because this has been a problem since I was VERY young.

I'm in some wine club that ships me a case a quarter
I don't drink it and use the bottles for gifts and to always have an inventory of reds and whites
I keep a bottle in each car too to have a gift wherever I go

I recommend you taper back and eat healthy

Wow. Ur in a wine club just to give it as gifts? Ur a dedicated gift giver. :)
I agree with ur advice. That's what i'm trying to do. I usually drink a bottle every night. Since I started this thread a few days ago, i have cut back to a couple of glasses a night. Prolly still sounds like 2much but it's half of what i was drinking. I wanna get myself back to only drinking wine a couple days a week.
I'm working on the food thing,2. I did great with it for a couple of days. Last night, i had a great dinner. Grilled chicken and veggies. Today, not so good. I had some coffee in the am.... but nothing else, so far. Just didn't even think about it until i started reading this thread. Maybe i have just been really busy around the house. I will start cooking dinner in a few minutes.

I have similar sleep probs
sometimes I just take some ergogenic diet aids and stay up through the night to try to reset my clock

elo :) pharmacist :)

at the end of the day, your usage is neither uncommon, nor problematic - and so I would relax and probably keep doing it - although I would be concerned that in the case of an emergency, you would not be able to legally (or safely) drive your car to, say, a hospital or whatever.

theres a lot of stigma attached to drinking that amount of alcohol - lots of people will tut tut and say that its alcoholic behaviour etc etc, but the reality is that unless you feel compelled in an addictive way to do so, and you are in fact doing it because you find ethanol useful as a sleep aid in your extraordinary circumstances, then it isnt a bad thing. Your body will fairly quickly develop tolerance to alcohol in any event, and so the effect of the 70 or so grams of ethanol in that bottle of wine will affect you as much as a third or half that would on the average non drinker.

if it makes you feel better, usage patterns in many parts of europe either match or exceed your own - in greece for example, where the population is amongst the longest lived, and healthiest, in the world.

ethanol is also a perfectly usable carbohydrate, and so if you wanted to correct your diet, then what you should be doing is eating more protein, either in the form of shakes or chewy protein sources, so as to bring your intake of carbs vs. protein in line

cheerios :)

I appreciate your elaborate response. My mother was raised on a military base in Italy. She didn't return from Italy until she was 19. When she returned to the US, she brought with her a love for wine. I have been drinking wine(maybe a glass with dinner) since I was an early teen. I understand your comments about the development of tolerance to ETOH. When I drink a bottle of wine, I'm not drunk. It makes me feel slightly more relaxed than if I had only taken my sleeping medications. I guess my main focus should be on balance. I need to focus on eating on a regular basis. Obviously, more protein is a MUST. As far as calories..... it varies from day to day. About once a week or so- I will eat junk all day. Most days, I only eat once or twice. When I do eat, I try to eat healthy meals but it won't do much good if I don't eat anything else for 16 hours

Your excess deals with alcohol, the delivery method is secondary. :)

Not usually. When I do catch a couple of hours of sleep, it is usually when the sun is up. Maybe 2-3 hours or so. I get on here during the day.... everyday. I jump on and off in between other things(cleaning and stuff). I try to stay busy during the day...but I always check in here every couple of hours.

In college, I had a 10-dollar-a-day red bull habit. The sugar free kinda tasted like white wine. Closest thing to wine I could take with me into a chemistry class.

Actually, if u wanna get technical, my excess prolly more deals with benzos. But I gotta take those. Dr.'s orders. Don't want to not follow dr's orders.

What you need to keep in mind also, is alcohol is damaging on the liver. When our livers are not functioning well, our entire body is toxic.
Along with the benzos and the alcohol, your liver is probably extremely toxic therefore it's prob having the reverse effect on your sleeping patterns.
If you're going to continue with the wine and benzos, try as much as you can to eat and to take suppliments to detox and support your liver.
You may find once your liver is less taxed, you may sleep better.
