Who hates Rap?

Depends. I like Snoop. 50. Tupac. Some of the guys with actual skills to go along with the bling bling, I have more money & bitches than you, and drive your mommas Bently act they all put on. Seeing some of these brothers with a giant roll of hundreds flicking them around like they wouldn't bother picking one up if they dropped one on the street, while pouring gin on some fat ass-wigglin' sister in the next scene in their video is getting WAY old. In my opinion. Hey bro, I KNOW THE RECOED COMPANY HAS ALL YOUR SUPPOSED MONEY OK?!?! Gimme a break. Tupac had nothing, but you wouldn't know it from his videos, even though I like the guy. But whatever.

Most people who dont like rap dont like it for racial reasons, or because someone told them not to like it.

I'm sure as a rebuttal someone would post some tired reasoning like "Theres no variety in rap lyrics" or "Rap teaches people to kill" or shit like that.

TOTAL BULLSHIT.

If you want to find rap with lyrical content and messages, its out there. If you want some rap to shake your ass to, its out there.

I've also heard things like "Rap isnt made with real instruments". A big "nigga please" to that as well.

Most of the time, it boils down to a racial issue, as many consider rap to be a "Black" form of music.

Check these Rap songs out Perk (these are by no means the best, but songs which may be unique or carry a message):
"All That I Got Is You" - Ghostface Killah
"Banjo" - Above the Law
"Dear Mama" - 2Pac
"Lil Ghetto Boy" - Dr. Dre feat. Snoop
"Hailies Song" - Eminem
"Music" - Erick Sermon feat. Marvin Gaye
"Ends" - Everlast
"The Message" - Grandmaster Flash
"Po Folks" - Nappy Roots
"Thugz Mansion" & "I Can" - Nas
"I'll Be Missing You" - Puff Daddy
"Where I Wanna Be" - Shade Sheist feat. Nate Dogg
"Smile" - Scarface
"Coco" - Tela
"You Got Me" - The Roots
"Money, Power, Respect" - The Lox
"Legit Ballers" - Twista
"I Cant Go To Sleep" & "C.R.E.A.M" - Wu-Tang Clan

Most people don't like Rap because it's the most boring shit of art form. Why rap if you can sing? And if you can't sing then get the fuck out of this planet!

I don't hate rap outright...but 9/10 songs I hear are shit. Then again, with any music, a high percentage of what's out there is shit. I will say this though...that ugly fat Missy Elliot is hard on the ears and eyes alike.

I despise it too, it is too repetitive and image based.....these guys are all about image and making sure the world knows how much money they have. That to me is not a musician. and when every beat on you CD is sampled, well that speaks volumes in itself. If they were so good why is it only about 10% of rappers last more than 5 years.
Also, I would like to see just one rap artist do a fucking CD BY HIMSELF, not this "featuring....(insert name here".....these guys cannot stand alone with there own shit be it sampling or using a big name rap srtist as a crutch!!!

I hate it because it's boring as hell, sounds like a bunch of plastic jars being smacked around while some guy goes "Yo maan! Yo maan!"

You fucks are generalizing and stereotyping.

Not all Rap is like that. Get it through your thick heads.

I'd imagine Dre has more musical talent in his left nut than everyone on this thread.

That's fucking BS! I've played guitar and studied music over 20 years, and played in few jazz/fusion groups so give me your Dre, and I harmonize his Rap ass and shove C6/9 chord straight into his black butt.

What the fuck are you talkin' about? For me it's the music, and not the yo-yo lyrics. If I wanna "hear" good lyrics I buy a good book, or I read a newspaper. If I wanna hear good MUSIC then I don't listen rap.

These are the most important things in music, and in that order:
1. Melody
2. Harmonies
3. Rhythm

come on bro, some people may actually just not like it. you think my mom likes listening to rap ? anyways what you said still doesnt take away the fact that they dont like rap. i like rap but most of the stuff they sing about now is fucking stupid and getting out of hand. jewelry, girls and cars for the most part. the only difference between one song from the next is the beat, and thats if it wasnt stolen from an old song

Actually blacks were the ones to bring us the minor scale and perfect 4ths, which most Jazz is based on. Being a pianist for over 15 years I know what I'm talking about. If black people could realize what talent their ancestors had they would drop this Rap / Hip-Hop crap in a beat...

the only difference between one song from the next is the beat, and thats if it wasnt stolen from an old song

True except that the beat doesn't change either. They just take an old song and give it a Hip hop beat. But to be fair, Dance music does this a lot as well, and I still love it... oh well, gotta take the good with the bad...

The blinging stuff may be a majority of what you see on MTV, but MTV is hardly representative of the whole Rap music scene. DOWNLOAD those songs I listed earlier in the thread. Then download all the Tech N9ne and Lil Flip you can.

You are entitled to your opinion, I just think you are judging it by the wrong standards. Again, you don't judge the works of painters by looking at something a 6 year old made in class. You judge it by the greatest painters that are out.
How can any musician hate any one type of music is beyond me.

Pure Fantasy, just like most poppy poppy tunes.

It's not about singing, it's about what's being sung. Rap is all about Money, Guns, and "Ho's" as they so eloquently put it.

At least Dance music (Trance) is all just music, even if it's repetitive but still no stupid fantasy bs messages.

And the beat is the most boring thing you could hear from a musician's point of view.

It's all "BOOM" ----- "CHIT"-------------"BOOM"---------------"CHIT"
Where the "-------------------" = Dead Space

Honestly, the finer intricacies of music and music theory are left out of most rap. That is the reason I dislike much of it. However, I do enjoy a good number of rap artists, but not for their musical ability per se.

Personally, I compare everything to classical music. Rap is the furthest current musical genre from classical. Digressing somewhat, much of what I like about many of the more talented acts within the extreme metal genres is their incorporation of numerous classical elements, as well as pure instrumental pieces and amalgamation of operatic vocals intermixed or even seperate from traditional gutteral vocal style.

Rap is good social, popular, dance, lyrical, etc music. But in terms of composition it is severely lacking.

To anyone who might know... has Dre done any engineering or producing work outside of the rap scene? I have heard from... well, everyone and everywhere... that he is a mastermind in the sound studio. Does he have a theoretical background, or does he just rely on his experience and natural talent and 'ear' for his genre? Ie. could he engineer and produce a blues and jazz group, a classic rock group, a country group, and a rap group on a somewhat similar ground?

He had worked on R&B acts for his labels, and it's rumored that he might do a heavy metal album for some group. I believe he could engineer & produce an act of almost any genre. I know that Dre can play the piano.

His consistency in having quality albums and singles with good sales are mainly due to his work ethic and pefectionism. He's been known to make performers redo their verses over and over until it is PERFECT. Eve ran out of a booth crying during the recording of "Let Me Blow Ya Mind". He demands the same quality in his own work as well, so the songs are almost always on point.

Dre has produced so many countless hits that it would be almost impossible to list them all. If you want to sample his R&B work, check out: "Addicted" - Truth Hurts & "Fast Lane" - Bilal.

His rap work started in '82 with the World Class Wreckin Cru until now. His final album "Detox" is due in 2004. "The Chronic" and "Chronic 2001" were his classics. "Concrete Roots", "Back in the Day", and "First Round Knockoutt" were all compliation albums. He did most of the producing for NWA 86-91, went solo, founded Death Row, & made "The Chronic" in 92, produced Snoops album in '93, sold Death Row & founded Aftermath in '95, dropped "Chronic 2001" in 1999.

Check out these songs if you've never really listened to Dre:
"Nuthin But a G Thang", "Big Egos", "Keep Their Heads Ringin", "Lil Ghetto Boy", "Still D.R.E.", "Whats the Difference", Put it On Me", "Let Me Ride", "The Next Episode", "The Watcher", "Lyrical Gangbang", "Deep Cover", "Xxplosive", "Zoom", "Deeez Nuuuts", "Bad Guys Always Die" (feat. Eminem)

Other songs he's done:
"Just Dippin" - Snoop, "Cleaning Out My Closet" - Eminem, "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" - Eve, "Always Into Somethin" & "Chin Check" - NWA, "Hate In Yo Eyes" - Mack 10

No, that's what it USED to be. I remember listening to it back then a bit with Public Enemy and KRS-One. They would talk about stories about how difficult life was in their ghetto.

Now, it "appears" to be just about "bitches and hoes".

there is more to rap and hip-hop than 'money and bitches' etc.
perhaps those who hate this type of music haven't heard enough of it to make a good judgement about it.

try listening to dear mama (2pac) as well as crossroads (bonethugs) and see if you change your mind

I'm not doubting that there's probably more out there. But, it seems that the "bitches and hoes" is the only one that gets any air play while the more "meaningful" messages get lost in the overplaying of the other one.

I don't hate it, but most of it is about riches, expensive cars, a nice guitar and a bunch of bitches waiting for you and your thugz in a huge treemansion.

i cant stand it. especially all the toughguy, sex, drug shit that seems to be in all i ever hear of it. i would imagine its not all that way but i still dont like it.

becides i consulted with my klan grand master and he says its forbidden

most rap nowadays BLOWS. have you heard soldier boy? or little wayne's repetitive garbage? thats not rap, its mainstream bullshit.

old school stuff from the 90s is sick though.

gang starr
showbiz & a.g.
old school common & nas

all of that stuff is awesome

It 100% totally depends on who the artist is!! To just say "Do you hate rap?" is much too generalized.... I hate some stuff classified as rap but I love others... Every music genre has some excellent stuff, along with alot of rubbish.

I really like the following: Wu Tang Clan, Tribe Called Quest, NWA, Public Enemy, Digital Underground, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, KRS-1, Ice-T..... (as you can see I like alot of the classic stuff from the 80s)

I HATE HATE HATE almost all the typical Top 40/mainstream SHIT that gets shoved down our throats on a regular basis.... If my only impression of "rap" was this mainstream poser bullshit, I would say I hate it too!!!!!!

Perfekt list but there is a missing. Sagopa Kajmer. NR1:dolphin:

i love hip hop, i live hip hop. im from nyc and i agree that the MAJORITY of people who say they HATE rap say it for racail reasons. and im white btw. Now with that being said if i didnt know dick about hip hop cultre and turned on hot 97 or any other radio station and heard the b.s thats on then i could see not liking it. its exploited to the point of no return, imo.

90's hip hop though........ oh boy!!! thats what i grew up listening to.

Don't listen to it then. Why make a thread about it on here? Stop worrying about things so much. People like what they like. I don't like punk or country, but I won't go out of my way or bring attention to my dislikes. Believe me I can tell you a list of reason why I don't fancy that kind of music. In the end, I don't really care what other people do.

Some people. If you stopped hating on everything, maybe they could realize how grand life can truely be. Being crude and shut down to other people's way of life will make you unpleasant. Only other angry people will be drawn to you, so you can bitch and moan about your dislikes. Just don't listen to it if you don't like it. Putting others down just because they don't share the same interest is insulting and rude.

Absolutely agree with you! Though i don't listen to rap i don't blame those who do it. Tastes differ. That's the truth. I believe there are people who will say shit towards metal and rock, but it will not stop me listening to these kinds of music.

Most people don't like Rap because it's the most boring shit of art form. Why rap if you can sing? And if you can't sing then get the fuck out of this planet!

Agree, they don't even play an instrument or read music. the music sucks, lyrics suck, singing sucks, they suck, shit not one thing about it is good.

most people who hate on rap only hate it because of what the radio plays. listen to some real hip hop that actually has a message and solid production and you might think different.

A hand full of people on here are mindless, if you don't like it then that's cool... keep it moving. But to generalize? It's more than a few artist out there that are politically motivated, positive, and make good music. Rap is the most versatile genre of music, also the most influential. That's why the negative things you see on T.V are portrayed in rap video alone. Don't blame rap, blame Viacom. There's plenty variety of rap, good and bad. but corporation only plays one kind, the kind that's immoral and that dumbs down the youth.

Old post, but it never hurts to tell the world once again that rap is crap. It's just not skillful music. 90% of the time there are no instruments and everything is programmed. Lets see... No real musicians playing instruments, everything is synthetic and programmed, and most of it is focused on sex and crime. Sure sounds like Britney and Simpson-style music to me.

you're an idiot. what do you think beats are made from? instruments. if it's so god damn easy why don't you make a beat and post it up here. the top producers in rap make anywhere from $100-300K for 1 beat. the neptunes record themselves playing their own instruments and then create beats from those recordings.

you don't like rap? cool.. but don't act like you know anything about the genre you profess to hate.

Dude! Drummers are people that hang out with musicians, regardless of musical style. Drummers are not musicians. Hence, creating a rhythmic pattern does not equal music.

*It's a long standing joke amongst musicians. :)*

I thought rap died out a few years ago actually. There hasn't been a major rap show here in years, but we get major rock/metal acts almost weekly which continually sell out our new arena and stadium.

I just saw these guys (TSO) last night and they put on a spectacular show.

That's when I LOVED hip-hop the most. When it was "REAL". Now? Fuck that! The shit is fake as hell! False truths in a fantasy based world that doesn't exist for them OR the listener!

The music has really gone to delusional males and low self-esteem materialistic females.

yea I miss the old days of rap the stuff nowadays makes it hard to listen to rap though I have been preparing for this to happen for years as I've watched rap from the start to now and I could see it decline year after year.I only listen to a few artists nowadways

Well the real question here is what do you consider to be rap?

The krazy shit is... Is that most ppl have no idea what hiphop is or about, hence the term, RAP!!!!

Hip-Hop/Rap whatever "USED" to be fucking awesome! Then...it all went down. Why? Because it had to go mainstream. Hip-Hop/Rap is a music for poor people. It comes from the ghettos, the hoods, the projects and from low class, low level, low educated people. It was fucking awesome in the late 90's early 2000's. Then...because it needed money and it's all it cares about....it went mainstream. It practically sold it self out like a cheap hooker giving out blowjobs for $2. Once that happened everyone caught onto it. Even white people. Even OOOOLD white people. Just like the U.S.A. , it corrupted itself from within the inside. And all based on it's greed for money.

AGAIN! LIKE I SAID EARLIER MOST PPL HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE WHAT IT IS ABOUT!

I don't care what it's about, I don't like the way it sounds, so for me it stops right there, none of the cultural significance matters if I still don't think it sounds like the kind of music I enjoy.

Most? Probably all of them! The only ones that do know what they are saying is black "men" from the ghetto. I myself am not black but I was born in the ghetto and raised in the hood (LOL). So I know exactly what they are saying and what they mean. That's why for me I LOVED this music back in the day. When they actually said something.

Now?! Now it's all about money this and money that (which they do not have) and I got this and don't you wish you had this and I got these bitches fucked and pregnant. Same dumb, ignorant EXTREMELY uneducated, low level class people dumb saying shit over and over and over again.

Most of the music is straight up INSULTING females. And the females listen? Oh yeah! But do they know what they are saying? NOPE!!! Not a fucking clue. I've been to a couple of rap battles with some bros and their girls. Most of the dudes "know" what these rappers are saying. They can catch their words in every line they spit out. When I hear these cats spit out crazy shit I'm the guy saying..."OOOOOOOOO!!! Damn!!!!". When I see girls there...they don't say shit. Not a goddamn thing. Why? Because they have NO idea what these cats are saying. Not even paying attention to their rhymes. Mostly just caught up in the music. Dumb! Dumb! Dumb!

And yes, the hip-hop/rap beats of today SUUUUCK!!! All it is 100% pure "rehashed" dope ass beats that were taken from back in the day. When hip-hop/rap actually WAS good.

Get this..."they" have taken "gay" music (yes..I said gay because this next song was made by gays FOR gays back in the 80's) and made it into rap?! Really???
