When punishing kids --- go wrong

Dad upset at kid's xbox obsession (I guess he rather be outside hanging with gangs like in la).

He takes his xbox. Soccer Parents around the world applaud! Taking away xbox's is all the rage!

Kid runs away. Now he's been missing for 9 days and family is crying.

Well done super dad. Pack his knapsack again next time.

----

"I told him he wouldn't be getting his Xbox back. He said, `Then I'm going to leave home.'"

Steve called his son's bluff and even helped him pack his knapsack.

"I really thought he would be home later that day with his tail between his legs," said Steve, who remembers running away from home once when he was a boy.

I bet he'll be home in time for your clan's capture-the-flag match tonight.

lol uh, the dad did the right thing. Your the parent, you can't let your child threaten you into not punishing them. If the kid - the tenth grader - ran away as a result, that sucks balls, but if his dad had given into the threat he would have lost all authority as the parent. Clearly, if the boy ran away because of his xbox, he NEEDED to have that thing taken from him. Unfortunate incident, but dad's not to blame.

And the kid would be sleeping in his bed right now.

I'm sure in 20 years the dad will be looking back as a good thing that he took away the xbox and packing his clothes. Who cares if the kid dies, it's about the message people, the message!

Unfortunate incident, but dad's not to blame. he did the right thing as a parent and his child is just a little dumb shit. He's in tenth grade, for god's sake - he's not a little boy. As i said, if he ran away over an xbox, then he absolutely NEEDED to have it taken away.

Yeah blame the kid supermom!

I'm sure his wife is hugging her husband tonight going "It's okay dear. You did the right thing. He's just a stupid kid and things happen. Go to sleep hon".

Yep!

I'm going to generalize why your way of thinking in my opinion is wrong.

People in todays society dont have the balls to do what is right for fear of what might happen.

He did the right thing, does it suck, yes but without structure and guidance his kid is more likely to end up in one of those gangs.

lol...yes, I'm blaming the kid. he's 15 and made a shitty choice. No, that doesn't make it less sad. But yes - he's a spoiled little shit who absolutely needed that thing taken from him. There were plenty of times i told my parents, even in high school, "I'll hate you forever if..." or "I'll run away if..." Kids do that. You have to be the parent.

I had a friend "run away" to my house once because she got into a fight with her mother.

Blaming the father for not giving in is pure stupidity.
