When punishing kids --- go wrong

Discipline and respect is something that needs to be instilled by the parents from an early age. Children are a byproduct of their environment. Starting to put your foot down when the child is 15 is already too late. imho

you'll know everything about raising kids right up until you have one of your own giving you problems.

The right thing to do is be involved, discipline them, and teach them how to function. Their job is to test you and see where the boundaries are and if you really mean what you say. If you teach them to face up to their problems and be responsible for screw-ups they'll turn out fine. It doesn't mean they'll never test you.

Sometimes a swift kick in the ass is a good thing. I got quite a few myself growing up. I've never really done anything that merited harsh punishment because I do what I'm told. My parents taught me respect and obedience from day 1, and I'll be forever greatful. I get pissed off at kids who talk back to their parents and give them shit. I can't stand it.

I have a cousin that just says "It's okay" when her 3 year old screams and hits people. I smacked that little shit when he came up and scratched me once, and he went off crying to his mommy. She just held him and said "it's okay". I was furious.

I saw a kid tell his mom to shut up the other day at the store and my face hurt just thinking about how hard I would have been slapped if I ever would have said that.

My little sister told my mom she was stupid one time. "Duh, mom. You're so stupid!" I don't think I had ever used the f-bomb in my parents house until that day, and haven't ever since. I made my sister cry. she told me she thought I was going to murder her for real.

I do not tolerate disrespect towards parents. My kids might think I'm a hard-ass when I finally have them, but they will "respect my authori-tay" (Cartman). I am really gentle towards kids, and really love kids (no pedo) but i'm also not afraid to let them have it if they are out of line. Even if their not my kids.

The dad even admitted he fucked up at the end by saying the kid is not in trouble but when he comes back they will sit down and work things out . Why didn't the dad sit down and work things out before the kid ran away?

The kid lived in the fucking boonies his friends were all 30 minutes away.As for the 20$ missing the dad has no proof the son took the money.

I lived in the boonies as a kid and it fucking sucked dick. The xbox was the kids only way to talk to friends and feel social .
I bet the dad would love it if the kid sat in his room all day started at the walls and watched tv like he had to do as kid.
I think dad was just jealous his son could give a shit about him and rather play with his friends online

You make good points. I assume he took it from his kid after he asked him to stop playing it.

My parents have done the very same thing with me. Took my nintendo 64 away for playing it when I was asked to put it away. I didn't run away, even though I was way pissed.
